Just a small addition. If you want to remove the notification for the shortcuts app, you can just slide the notification you recieved on the lock screen to the left and you will get a small options button on the right side of the notification.

Go to screen time, select “view all activity” Scroll down to the list “Notifications”. Find shortcuts. At first it may not be selectable. Switch the view from week to day at the top and and then back to week. Scroll down to Notifications, tap it and now turn off notifications. Mind you, you’ll have to do this over when ever you power down your phone and back on. Hope this helps

1 year later and I think Apple still hasn't released a native lock feature per app lol.. Here's hoping that by iOS 17 we have this feature. It's been long overdue. Especially if you have kids playing on your iPhone and iPad all the time. Great video btw Brandon!

For the people that cant get rid of the timer banner, try the following: new automation > apps > *your desired apps* > next > add action > Lock screen. Perhaps the lock screen option was added after this video was made.

Just so you know there is finally a toggle to disable “notify when run”. So instead of going to the settings and disable notifications for the shortcut app in screen time you can toggle it off right from the shortcut app.

The only problem is if the person opening the “locked” app is in your phone looking through your apps, they probably already have your password. Making the “lock” useless

I would like to lock the Files app before I take my iPad in for repairs. The shortcut way doesn’t seem viable because anyone can simply disable it. Screen time seems better because it has the password. I’m surprised there isn’t an app that will encrypt other apps or files. Thank you for the video!

Users should be warned that if you restrict “All Apps”, once you toggle it back on, your folders/Home Screen will NOT go back to how it was.

The work around doesn’t fully work. Once the timer kicks you out and you are back to the lockscreen, you can just swipe up and the app will open right back up on the screen and not close because it wasn’t really closed in the background… so you can just swipe and be right back in the app…

This! I knew couldn’t be the only one with the same issue. The animation worked fine right up to when you unlock the screen, which we can clearly see he has to manually close in his video after unlocking his phone, the app is right there, open w/o any issues. Making all of theses steps redundant.

Another downside would be the shortcuts notification totally off. The shortcuts notifies me when I connect and disconnect to charge my iPhone. Meaning I can’t use both automations at the same time.

Automation runs only for the first for the selected application, if you enter passcode and goes to same application again it does not prompt for any authentication.

If someone can unlock your phone, they can also get into the application they want. If they can't unlock the phone then what's the point of having the app locked as well? I just don't understand the reasoning behind wanting this functionality? I'm sure someone will use the situation of you leaving your phone unlocked and unattended but at that point it's your own fault. If you really have something to hide on your phone then don't leave it laying around unlocked. That's just called being irresponsible.

Yeah, that’s what kept me wondering, unlocking the phone with the passcode after the automation has been executed, opens the app straightaway. App lock makes sense when you put a different passcode/TouchID to it and this just doesn’t help. But yeah, if someone got their hands on your unlocked phone, then this definitely helps but what are the odds you’d keep the automation turned on all the time? Surely it will trouble you.

Fyi The faceid and passcode framework is available from open from Apple, it depends on app developers to add it to the apps or not. For example whatsapp have integrated the faceid and passcode option, similar to bank apps.

I have the iPhone XS Max, anyone experienced an issue whereby, say you loose signal for a while, go into a long tunnel etc and then when you come out of that tunnel your phone doesn't pickup signal and the only way to get it back is to go into Airplane mode and then come out of it and it picks up signal again?
