hey guys, this is EXACTLY the kind of sup-ing i want to do. ive been on quarantine for 4 months. ive surfed, snowboarded, street skated. and longboard stuff. and i only have two weeks in cape hatteras to reunite with my folks in a small beach house in october. ive never sup'ed before but have wanted to do it so bad for years. cruising, touring, but mainly longboard type stuff. i saved up to rent a soft top sup when i get there. please tell me what kind of sup i need to ask for. also. will people think im lame if i have a leash on the paddle t. oo? like on my arm? in the surf i mean. im sincerely asking that. anyway im going to watch this entire series and i subbed. oh!!! im 5'10 but skinny so only 135 pounds right now. pleas. e tell me what literage and what not i should ask for. thanks in advance

Hi Ken! Thanks for the comment and subscribing to our channel. Glad to hear you’re getting into SUP and will be out on the water soon. This quarantine thing is hard! We definitely recommend starting off in the flat water in a river/lake/estuary to get a feel for how the board moves in the water and how you can learn to control it. I would start out with something that’s around 10ft in length, but with some width so you have stability, let’s say 10ft long by about 32 inches wide - something like this should be around 160-180 litres. This will also be a great starting point to catch your first small waves. The bigger the board, the more stability you will have and this is always recommended if trying for your first time. Remember, because you are renting a SUP, the shop can generally switch out your board for another one if you want to try something smaller! As for the leash on the paddle, I generally would not recommend it. Hanging onto your paddle is fairly easy to do when you fall off. Even if you lose it, most paddles float nowadays and it won’t go too far away from you in smaller waves. It could also be tangled around you and there is more chance of the paddle hitting you if you fall as well because it is attached. I hope this helps Ken. Let me know if you need any more information! Cheers. Beau
