Horrible advice. Things don't need to be expensive to look expensive. Neutral colors, quality fabrics and classic shapes and styles that suit you all make for an upscale look. Stay far away from neon and, when in doubt, wear black. Invest in quality, not brand. Loubs are for basic bitches.

Don’t miss the forest because of the trees, ladies. Receive the nugget of truth that Lauren presented: how you look & dress can have professional implications. Her brief anecdote was just that - brief. It’s not the whole story. Every tip that she provides can be achieved on a budget. She was having fun & making light of the realities of needing to look polished in some settings. And her client happens to be able to afford name brands without breaking a sweat. Moreover, the client already purchases quality items in other areas of her life (i.e. her home). Sometimes, we have blind spots. Fashion was her client’s blind spot. Heck, I’ll take her good advice right over to Marshals. I get the point. Thanks, Lauren 👍🏾

Wow Lauren! There are some pretty harsh comments below. I hope you have not been discouraged. I'd like to offer my own two cents from a mature perspective. I'm 60 and have been a career professional for decades. My work takes me out on the lecture circuit, facilitating training for professionals, consulting and coaching, and publishing. So, I'm front and center a lot of the time. I agree with you 100% that considering how we dress for the culture in which we're operating professionally is very important. Of course, dressing right doesn't guarantee anyone a successful career. But the right trappings for your chosen profession and environment are a tool that you can use to help you create a successful image and brand. That's the truth whether you're in the professional or corporate world, an artistic arena, or any other work environment. If status pieces are part of the culture in which you work, as they are mine, I agree with you that it can be a smart career move to play along. So, I don't agree with those who have suggested otherwise below. You have to consider the culture. However, I do have a suggestion for you. In my experience working in male-dominated environments and fields, men don't always recognize designer garments, shoes, and bags. I doubt that the majority of the men I've worked with in my career would be able to identify my scarves as Hermes, for instance. They may not have appreciated that I carry a designer handbag. However, men have ALWAYS seemed to know that I wear a Rolex. The men I've worked with as colleagues and clients have complimented me on my Rolex more times than I can count over the decades. And though I bought my Rolex second-hand, from a reliable vendor, at a fraction of the original price, no one ever knew that. Shoes, bags, and scarves are wonderful status pieces and I love them and wear them too. And typically, the women I've interacted with professionally are the ones who compliment me on them. But a carefully-chosen status watch is an investment that you can wear to work every single day, year-round that BOTH women and men may recognize. And it will last BEYOND your lifetime. Mine is from the 1970s and looks brand new. So, I say dress to succeed in whatever environment in which you work. And if status clothing and accessories are part of the culture, start with a great watch.

Some expensive items look tacky and cheap and may not be comfortable for the price. so this is not necessarily the case. I believe in a good fit for your body type, quality fabrics and investing in classic items that last for seasons.

As a business woman, I'm not going to a fashion consultant who uses the word 'floss'. It sounds like something teenagers should be using. Buy clothes that flatter your figure, colour gives you the wow factor and as you get older spend more on your clothes. Good shoes made using good leather that's comfortable for you. Get a good haircut, a manicure, keep your teeth healthy. Also, walk like you are in charge, shoulders back and your head up high.

I find most of her videos are informative... However I am very disappointed by this one, and her advises. I disagree that we should become a walking add, but wearing logos.. I think good quality clothes, tailored, and well combined makes you look classy. Good comfortable shoes( louboutin are not so comfy) ... Sometimes I see people wearing brands all over and they have no style. As a style adviser, you should use a more sophisticated language...

The one thing this video doesn't mention is you can look expensive and CHEAP at the same time, especially if you talk like this lady here who is making all these faces while talking street. The goal is to look expensive and classy, otherwise the expensive things you're wearing add nothing to your value.

i love your video. i couldnt agree more. how you look says a lot about yourself. its not about being superficial. You just want a good quality vs buying a cheap purse every month because they dont last. if you think about it , it adds up. so why not get one good expensive classic piece that will last a long time and will stay in style. great video!

Prada handbag bought second hand dirt cheap but looks amazing for dress up date with my hubby. Have carried it to almost every single date night, feel glamorous and expensive but know I didn't break the budget to invest in it and truly love it have carried it for several years and is safely stored when not in use. I agree one small item over dressed head to toe in brand names. Prefer to wear brandless clothing over walking around like a advertisement for their company, even do the same on hubbies wardrobe , basic wardrobe with a single statement piece is how smart people invest in their wardrobe without breaking the bank.

If you feel she doesn't seem authentic because she isn't more relaxed, that might be because she's an introvert (which she actually mentions in many of her videos). Being an introvert and shy myself, I can (somewhat, not completely) understand she might seem reserved to more extroverted people, but please try to keep in mind, being an introvert is a naturally occurring personality trait or a permanent temperamental feature like shyness, although an introvert isn't necessarily shy as well. I feel we just aren't able to allways be as relaxed as extroverted or ambiverted people, especially when we are speaking to an unknown group, like in KZbin☺️ To me Lauren seems authentic and relaxed, I guess we just have different standards on that.

Fashionwise: Logo prints are the main factor for me not to hire a person! Even if everything else is on point with the candidate! The moment I see a lady with LV logos all over, or a ManBoy with logo belt - I know the stupidity I will have to deal with, so I save myself the trouble beforehand!

Every company has an image to uphold and a target group of partners and clients. If u r so naive to think that looks do not matter - think again. Because how we dress is a very conscious choice. And! And how we dress reveals a lot about our character. But u r above it all, of course! :D

Some garment from Jcrew are nice and look expensive, it depends how it’s styled and who is wearing it. If it’s a person who is well groomed and has signature look. Otherwise I don’t see nothing wrong with Jcrew or club Monaco which are my fav stores. I will from time to time try investing in some nice designers like Vince clothing but I wouldn’t try getting everything from designer. I would invest in just handbag tho.

very nice video and I think you are doing a good job by educating people about stiling. I think it is not easy to look stylish, no matter expensive stuff or cheap or mixed. If you add an expensive item to average quality outfit may look odd and like a fake. I would be careful here. It's my personal opinion. Anyway... I hate being forced into buying designers, like I am less worthy with a £15 bag, and a great, intelligent, worthy, smart ass whith LV bag for some a stupid price. LV is made in Bangladesh, same as H&M, woman who make them earn like £5 a day ..... fuck all designers and "flossing", second hand could be justified.

So, let me get this straight, she looked a mess in J. Crew? I love J. Crew. This is the silliest piece of advice I've ever heard. This is not to say Givenchy is not amazing. Still, I am not sure how someone giggled at her for wearing J.Crew in any corporate environment. This has to be a made up story. 😑

Why should labels matter? Just slowly build up a wardrobe of beautiful, high quality pieces, second hand if you can, the brand name doesn't matter and doesn't necessarily indicate the highest quality. Also the style and fit of clothes makes a difference, as do your hair, makeup, and accessories. You can wear Louboutins and still look like a trainwreck.

Lydia Bogage, I agree! What is this Floss? Seriously, I am fortunate that I got good advice from my mother when it came to style & I know what is ok for me. I've made many mistakes as we all do & then I try to learn from them. But I have been listening & watching all these videos but when she started the Floss & Flossing & other words I don't know I got lost & lost interest!!!!! To be truthfully honest without being rude, the videos are good & maybe helpful but please please talk properly or go to English lessons, just saying. Have a nice day x🛍💐x

No offence to you ☺️, but I think Lauren was using humour by using the word floss, she was sort of joking in a light, I think in a fun and cute way about sometimes a person having to invest a bit more in their wardrobe (not too huge an amount) to get the respect they deserve in a work environment. The word "flossing" replaces in a gentle and non-offending way "try to look more stylish". Please, not every choice of word should be taken literally ☺️, I feel like I'm lucky, because when I was a child people would sometimes play with words like Lauren does, so it isn't difficult for me to recognize when something is humour. She just has a good sense of humour and wants to be funny in a non-offending way☺️

Lauren: You want to sound high class and ghetto at the same time. Does not work. The "flossin'" got to be a little too much, said once or twice would have been enough, but the repetition was an over-kill. "You get what I'm spittin' here"? Wow. Seriously? You are a complete contradiction! If you want more viewers and more clients polish up your vocabulary and leave the rap words and hand gesture to the rappers.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but Lauren is joking, she's gently and non-offendingly replacing "try to look more stylish and polished" with "floss your wardrobe" to be kind and not to sound too insensitive to anyone. I feel like not every choice of word should be taken too literally☺️ She's using humour with the rap words as well.

Lauren is replacing "try to look more stylish and polished" with "floss your style" to be kind and not to sound too insensitive or offending to anyone. I feel like witty people often use humour in that way. I guess I'm lucky in a sense, when I was a child, sometimes people would play with words like Lauren does here, so it doesn't feel difficult for me to discern humour from serious words☺️
