One thing I love about your video is you didn't throw out brands saying that we NEED this particular one. You suggested but not in a way to alienate us working poor ladies who try to save to look good. I dropped about $200 to create a capsule wardrobe work for & it was the smartest thing I ever did. I have about 10 pieces that I can rearrange as needed.

l went out to an afternoon casual concert a few weeks back. l wore my favourite jeans, a white tshirt and a black blazer. (l pushed up the sleeves on the blazer and had to hold them there with hair ties. :D ) l felt fantastic. Really comfortable, l think l looked pretty good, pretty young(ish) and it was not overdone or try hard at all.

Lauren! Yours is one of my absolute favorite style channels. You have such interesting content and cover a variety of topics in very creatives ways and I haven't seen anyone else go so in depth. I think you've probably played the biggest role in changing how I think about style and fashion. I was wondering if you could address the minimalist movement we're seeing all over KZbin and what your thoughts are on the "minimalist capsule wardrobe", decision fatigue, etc. I have mixed feelings on the whole thing.

I'd have to say that as an inverted triangle, a white buttoned shirt draws too much attention to my upper body. I'd rather invest in a black chiffon buttoned shirt and keep my lighter colors or patterns on the bottom.

After posting my comment to you yesterday, today I went shopping and mall gawking. I think I found the reason for my confusion. I think it might be a seasonal issue. Where I live we are having Fallter. Therefore, jeans, blazers, t-shirts, button-down shirts, trench coats are all too cold right now. I will keep these tips in mind for next Spring.

Lost a ton of weight for health reasons, Bariatric Surgery, for health reasons. The bonus, needing new clothes and clearing out my closet. You have helped me so much. I love Jean’s with blazers. Button down shirts, long cardigan, they dress up or down any look. I have discovered that I am Classic, Edgy, with a little Sophisticated BoHo thrown in. Black cotton t shirts fade and look cheap after a couple of washes. Gray cotton shirts always look new. :)

I don't own any of those "staples" and yet still I have a capsule wardrobe with interchanging pieces and look stunning every day^^ I ditched trousers (yeah and jeans too) because I've a bigger belly so for years I would struggle with jeans and they always made me suffer and feel pain in the area of my stomach. Now I wear dresses and skirts, I feel perfectly comfy in those and I never struggle to find the right size or experience that terrible pain associated with wearing tight jeans around my belly. I also don't wear blazers and button-down shirts for the simple reason that I've bigger boobs and just imagine how a cotton shirt would look on a busty women - clue the buttons go sideways and skins shows and it looks and feels terrible. I don't own t-shirts because they're just too casual for me, and I never look good in those. Now I wear sweaters with skirts, dresses, blouses with skirts and so on and I feel like myself. Btw I try to dress both classy and trendy. You can be modern and ditch trousers! It is possible.

I feel you sis. I have ditched my jeans 2 weeks ago. Swapped them for dressy leggings, dressy trousers, skirts & dresses. I have a medium bust. So t-shirt do well for me. Just need to find that perfect fit & quality.

Same here! Pretty much only skirts and dresses here too. A good skirt will make you look polished no matter the body shape or size.

This is just a general list of very versatile, basic pieces, more to help guide those who don't even know where to begin in building a functional wardrobe. No one should take any "must have" list as gospel, just take what you want and leave the rest. Everyone ultimately needs to find what fits their personal style, what they love, what works for them and suits their lifestyle, which can sometimes take a few years to get right.

What color would you recommend for the items you suggested getting in black for those of us who don't like wearing black (unless it's a funeral)? Would charcoal or navy work better in terms of being able to dress it up and down?

I would look at your color type and choose a color which suits your type. If youre looking for warm colors you can choose a chocolate brown or burgundy. Cold colors can be dark blue or gray. I think this will look so much better without black. Take a look at Daria Andronescu Channel on KZbin.

Take dark brown as your basic dark color, instead of black. Use it as it was black and form your wardrobe around that color.

And neutral color - navy, brown, olive, cream, while, Ivory, beige/stone, wine etc. Pick your color palette.

Hi. Why doesn't anyone talk about Underwear Must Haves? If you're wearing the wrong type of underwear, what you put on top will just look wrong. I think the fashion world really needs to educate women on that aspect of Fashion.

Great tips. Not sure if this list is regional. I live in Toronto GTA, Ontario Canada. I've been snooping around and I don't see a lot of people wearing jeans. I didn't see any trench coats. Majority of the people do not wear white shirts or really any shirt. T-shirts of any colour weren't really seen. I don't recall seeing any leather jackets. And, definitely no leather pants. So, you may wonder what we wear here. A lot of black. Black anything. Casual clothes chooses seem to be the most common. Pants are usually skinny black pants. I've seen lots of leggings. Too many leggings. Tops are usually something which is more of a stand alone. No one I saw wore a blazer. However, lots of hoodies. I do enjoy your videos and tips, although people here dress more casually, I kind of don't want to dress if others think I'm trying to look better than them.

@@katherinehyatt697 thanks for your comment. I went shopping at BCC today and was people gawking. I think it's too cold here to wear the basics that Lauren is speaking about. I've definitely put away my fall clothes and dressing warmer now. I find blue jeans to be too cold right now. I think with the tall buildings you have in DT TO makes a huge difference. I recall living and working there and the weather usually felt better. It's freezing and raining in the suburbs.

You're not trying to look better than anyone, you're trying to look presentable. If others are bothered by it, it's their problem lol. I'm sure those people aren't wearing the same casual clothes to work everyday, and hopefully they're not wearing them when they go out for a nice evening. I'm sorry if my comment sounds hostile, I'm just sick of how casually people dress. These tips are for people who want to up their style game, not dress like all the folks who don't have style lol.
