The direct Midi in has the following advantages: you can save presets with notes you can recall, direct Midi note is cleaner in the background / uses less resources / doesnt need an automatic note off (Ableton Midi Map only listens to Note On messages) , it is more flexible to set up multiple controllers to send the same note (just use re-pitch and re-route tracks), you can automate pitches = you could set up a controller button to do action X in the first part of your set and do action Y in the second part…

aaaah useful. coming from live bands to electronic music, i hate how rigid live looping is with having to follow project tempo. The problem though is that I'm using bitwig. Any idea of how to do this in bitwig?? Been thinking of trying to create a device in The Grid for better looping

I keep on running into the following problem: Let's say: I have the looper plugin on a track, set it to two bars. I want to record 2 bars of music, but don't know the exact BPM. The first time I use the plugin it just records, and when I stop the first recording it adjust the tempo of the project file (perfect!) However, if I'm not happy with the result and I clear the looper, it now still assumes the same BPM as what I just played. It doesnt want to re-adjust the project's BPM. The plugin doesnt show the "blindly recording" state anymore (such as on 6:58), but instead it goes straight into it's fixed BPM mode (as shown in 7:05) Is there any way to reset the plugin completely, and make it adjust the BPM a second time?

It either has something to do with how I set up my file, or it's a new bug. I want Looper to behave just like it does between 6:35 and 7:08, where each new recording readjusts the BPM >

@@9Sjoerd5 Hey - the transport needs to be off/Ableton Live needs to be 'stopped playing' to use this function of the native Ableton Looper. Unfortunately the native Ableton Looper is quite limited and one is not able to access a lot of the paras of the Ableton Looper via the M4L/Ableton.API

It would be perfect if you use looper to create the initial loop and then record it into the looper device

Hey - yep I agree - unfortunately this is not possible due to some restrictions on the Ableton/M4L.API and how the native looper is accessible via that.

@@abletondrummer yeah Ableton should provide it :) I solved it now by using the looper for the initial loop, then record it into your looper, and then when I stop record at the same time I stop the Ableton looper and clear the loop. Works seamlessly!
