Fascinating process, thank you for showing us how it's done! Sadly none of the links you mentioned came up on my screen.

You should list the difference models of equipment you use. That swing arm extractor looks incredible (and expensive!)

Ill do another video on this as my collection has grown since the last one!

Great video, I have been pressing all my ling heather frames. Very hard work. Can I ask exactly what model of extractor that is ? I can see it’s a Lyson but can’t spot the model number. Many thanks for making the video

Thanks for sharing your method! From my understanding though, one of the reasons for difficulty in separating heather honey from the wax is that heather honey brakes down the wax to a degree into smaller particles and hence not suitable for mesh filtering as you as you demonstrated on your last step. Do not know your mesh count on your filter but there is a possibility of very small amount of wax getting through. The best method that I have seen, is using a centrifuge machine with a super fine cloth mesh holding the mashed up honey+wax. And again, it is very time consuming process even with the machine spinning for at least an hour but every particle of wax is captured and pure heather is extracted.

Yes. We moved over to wax cappings spinner this year but sold it - just too slow. It works fine on the sieve but is still slow. its 400 micron sieve and gets rid of all wax

Thank you for the reply. I know spinner is slow but less time and effort on your part and you can get on with other tasks while the machine is spinning away. But everyone have their preferences. Really enjoying your channel.

@@MotionArtist3D this is what we thought but it required full attention the whole time and took an age to clean it out. The sieve was much quicker as you can agitate, leave for a bit and then agitate again. It sieves quicker than I can extract. I'll do a vid on it 😀 Laurence

Another fantastic and well explained video, I look forward to the jarring one. What temperature woud you suggest the heather honey is warmed to prior to spinning/filtering?

Glad you found it useful. We extract straight off the bees so dont heat but its effectively preheated by the bees to 38c (hive temp).

Great video, thank you! What refractometer do you use? The prices vary from £30 to £1000. What is your experience with them? Thank in advance

We just use a cheap one from Bee Equipment. Does the job fine. Just make sure its one for honey as opposed to homebrew as the calibration can sometimes be different.

Any tips for OSR honey harvesting?
@BlackMountainHoney4 жыл бұрын
Other than make sure you get it off before its fully capped and set in the frames and keep it warm, you can extract just like any other honey. Makes a superb soft set
