I’m not surprised by this at all. A friend of mine worked as a fabricator/technician for them when they were the start up company called AMP. The stories he’s shared about working with their engineers and founders are just frustrating. For example, there was an issue they were stuck on for a few months and my friend came up with a excellent solution. He brought the idea to the team and engineers. They shut him down before he could finish explaining and said his idea would not work and not to make other suggestions because it’s not his place. A few weeks later an engineer came up with the same solution as my friend and ended up getting a huge bonus to his paycheck because of it. My buddy quit on the spot.

Honestly it had a lot to do with the union that was there as well. UAW local 1112 was an extremely strong union to the point where some might say it was the best and strongest union. GM could have retooled the plant in order to produce the new Chevy blazer, but they elected to move production down to Mexico because it was cheaper. So yes you are correct about the money aspect of it, but what you won’t hear much about is how GM was tired of fighting with UAW local 1112 and shut down the plant as a cause of the union being so strong.

The GM Lordstown plant played a huge role in the Mahoning valley prior to closing its doors and truly hurt the valley after shutting down. This plant supplied many jobs to the people in the area along with its other suppliers, distributors, and many more. It truly was a shame to see this plant close, especially because it meant my father had to be relocated to another plant. GM could have retooled this plant in order to produce the Chevy blazer, but elected to move its production down to Mexico instead. UAW local 1112 was the best, and strongest union around and corporate GM did not want to deal with the local anymore, thus also aiding in shutting the plant down to get rid of the local. @@andromeda9340 proof of said ramp actually happening at lucid motors? They showed the air off 6 years ago now in April of 2016. The powertrain itself was in a converted cargo van they smoked a p85d with in 2015. Their parent co has been around for over 15 years now, they provided the motors and batteries for formula e through this season. Lost the contract for the new gen 3 formula e cars. Lucid raised over $20,000,000,000 so far and built a ground up facility called amp-1 finishing it over a year ago now. They recalled cars already for a suspension issue. Lucid is all out of excuses imo. Especially with all the trash talk Rawlins did about no production hell and tesla beating specs etc. 👍🏻 And why hasn't a SINGLE independently done fully instrumented test of an air taken place yet? Motor trend gave them all kinds of early coverage last year inc coty. Yet hasn't posted any official reviews of it with real world specs like range, charging, acceleration etc. 🤔

As a gear head I’m surprised that you didn’t delve into the hub motors used in the Endurance. There are a lot of new capability that can be derived from a system of a computer individually controlling four hub motors, each capable of producing 150 hp and 1100 lb ft of torque. This system dumps the diffs, as well as half shafts, drive shafts, transfer case, transmission, ICE and supporting stuff like exhaust, cooling and fuel. You think front lockers are bad ass? This system could do this electronically. It can also make super tight turns by controlling the torque and turning direction of each wheel. It can do tank turns but why tear up the ground when you can turn the rear wheels in opposite directions. It has 13” of ground clearance without any lifting. The $5.5 billion they’ve spent isn’t much different than what GM and Ford are spending to get their electric pickups into production, but they have much deeper pockets. Foxconn taking over the Lordstown plant and manufacturing the Endurance under contract has been a godsend. Foxconn is not big, they’re gigantic with revenues around $200 billion/year they will have the assets to make this happen. They will also be building the Fisker PEAR and since they make the iPhones, they have a good shot at the future Apple car. BTW, the agreement with LMC is for two vehicles, one is the Endurance the other is unknown. The plan is LMC sells these vehicles in North America, Foxconn will sell them in the rest of the world. Yeah, they’ve had financial and management problems but their hub motor technology can be a game changer, I for one hope they will succeed.

Running theme in these EV startup companies seems to be a willingness even an eagerness to promise stuff that they simply cannot do. How about before you take a 100000 preorders you actually make something. It's like the people running these companies think they're making an android app or something. Making a car is complicated and expensive.

I agree, the fact that hub motors are in a work truck is ridiculously dumb IMO because nobody knows how durable and reliable the technology is under extreme situations. work trucks live hard lifecycles, they get dinged, they get hella dirty at the jobsite, etc and I wouldn’t put unproven technology into the mix.the cost of ownership will likely not meet the targeted market anyway which would make it pointless for most consumers.if they used normal EV powertrains that are proven and reliable ,then it would be great for them because it reduces cost and give everyone savings but all I see right now is an expensive lifestyle truck that pretends and tries too hard to be a work truck💀

@@andromeda9340 When the hub motor experiences a front-end collision into a concrete wall and comes off the test truck fully functional and undamaged I think that's a good sign. I think people will find themselves clamoring for these once they begin to become known on the market.

I remember back in april 2021 there was a race in México, and Lordstown promised to be the first electric vehicle to finish that race, they made a tubular chassis with the 4 electric motors, and i think they said 650hp, it all looked weird, it was preprepped in a company specialized to those kinds of races, they did many press releases, and videos talking about it, and how it was going to be and important step into off-road racing, plus they said autonomy would be around 72 miles per charge, so some 2 hour fast charging would be done for that 300 mile race. On race day, there were only 2 vehicles in the elcetric vehicle class, both were really slow, they were passed by an old VW Beetle and the rest of vehicles that started behind them. After 42 miles, the other car, an old Toyota Hilux, with motors and batteries of a Nissan Leaf, passed the Lordstown Truck, and Lordsdstown stopped for like 30 minutes cause they ran out of battery, so they called a chase truck, to take them out to pit and recharge the batteries, then the chase truck got stuck like an hour, finally they made it to the highway to recharge, took longer than 2 hours to recharge, it was pretty late, when they went back to the race course, the Hilux was walfway to the race at that point, while lordstown was going back to mile 42, but then Lordstown got DQ´d cause they started driving the wrong way, they got noticed and retired, the Hilux couldnt make it either, they broke the front right suspension i think, i remember seeing comments of people being pissed after that

I remember that, they totaly ignored/forgot that range on road is totaly different from range on sand/off road. At least it did not broken down so maybe they learned how significantly range is reduced on loose surface and try it in future with extra batteries.

One thing that should be mentioned, Lordstown Motors was also investing heavy in bidding for the postal truck replacement contract and were one of the final contenders. They lost the contract to Oshkosh Defense which came as a shock to many, including those close to Oshkosh Corp. Watching this, can't help but wonder if the financial situation going on with Lordstown helped fuel the decision.

The stock of Tesla has to fall dramatically in next couple of years (months) it’s almost 1200$ per stock that’s not sustainable for a car company that hardly makes half a million cars per year. Tesla is a dwarf in the car industry and worth more then Ford, Toyota and Tata combined. It’s a massive bubble especially since Tesla never made actual profit from selling cars (since they only sell electric cars Tesla can sell a lot of CO2 rights and that’s how they make some money)

@@cenakaze I literally just googled their profit before writing this comment. And a million cars is still small fry compared to the big players in the industry. Thank you thank you for this! Between United Steel, General Motors, and others, the Mahoning Valley has pretty much been stripped of any real, well paying, well protected jobs. My family and friends back home have been dealing with this for generations now and while working class people from the area continue to struggle and get displaced, these giant corporations continue to lie, cheat and steal all they can and never seem to face any real consequences. I would have loved to stay in Youngstown and work a good union job at the Lordstown plant (or anywhere) with my dad and other friends and family to continue the Valley's automotive history. Instead, all those jobs are just gone. Poof. Even after all the tax breaks and bail outs that were paid for by said displaced, struggling workers and their families... People over profits.
