How to lower a motorcycle seat for short riders | Shave down your seat

As a short rider I struggle a lot with my tall Yamaha FJ09. Thankfully my friend Wayne decided to help me by shaving the seat of my bike. In this video, he shows me the meticulous process of getting rid of some of the seat foam 1” to 2”.

Why? do manufacturers think every rider is 6 foot six, I am 5 foot five, I owed a beautiful Buell Lighting, I couldn't touch the ground properly. I brought a low seat, short rear suspension unit had the front forks lowered, could I touch the ground no, just a complete waste of money, I never felt safe in traffic, I sold and brought a Indian Scout, now both feet are on the ground, and I feel safe, in my car I can adjust the seat in any direction, I choose, come on bike manufacturers wise up.

I wonder the same thing. Women tend to be shorten than men, and manufacturers are building these beautiful machines to suit mostly taller men.

You can take your seat to your local upholstery shop and ask them to customize it for your needs. For my first bike, I took the foam out and put gel pad instead.

Hey Miss Rebel! Sent my seat to Wayne 3 weeks ago and he was very helpful and communicative. He called and said it was done, sent me an invoice which I paid and he said he would ship it back next day. 1 week later and no seat and he has ghosted me, not respondining to calls, text or emails. Are you local to him?

Hey Jay! I’ll call him tomorrow morning and see if he finished your seat. Unfortunately I live on the west coast, and I’m not close enough. Anyway just give him few days, probably he’s a bit busy or traveling around.

This is a great share. I need to do this to mine. The only thing is, the guy should have been wearing a mask of some sort. Dont mess with your lungs, they are the only two you got.

Depends on the bike too. If one is shaving a seat, presumably they are short. The chances of their knees being jammed into their torso are low. If you're taller but still want to lower the seat, you can always lower the pegs too.
