Yamaha makes some of the best bikes in terms of fun, reliability, and value being maybe the best in the industry. But quality can sometimes remind you how much you saved.
Seats are among their biggest shortcomings, so let’s see if I can better or butcher my seat.

July 1, 2022: 36°c parked in the sun for 6 HR, the seat is HOT! Puck in the shade or cover the seat, other that that still very happy with this mod. The sakura (cherry blossom) are just starting to coming in and it was just over 20c today so naturally I just got home from a 7Hr ride; between the new flatness of the seat and the comfort of the gel insert, I know my grandfather told me nothing is perfect,but this is pretty close. I’m so happy with the “new” seat, I’d say it’s the second best mod after the hemp wind deflector. And to Yamaha, if you are still paying attention to my content, this bike is amazing, but flat seats are best, don’t slope me into the gas tank even in the high setting.

Thanks for this content. I'm just bought tracer 7 and for me that's most uncomfortable seat so far. 1h is fine but anything over 2h is awful. Will do the same on my one. 👍

Excellent video 👌🏼👌🏼 The stock seat on my bike has a "dip", which always pushed me forward. I tend to sit rearward and don't like to sit in a bucket, locking the rearward adjustment. Most importantly, the stock seat gave me a horrible jerk on the lower back when the bike landed on an abrupt bump, during my first long ride. Then I studied around and got online a seat cover with gel pad & foam layer. The shock absorption is absolutely beautiful, so many bumps/potholes in the last 25000km but the gel pad is doing its job. Also the seat cover made the seat flatter. Now after 2 years the seat cushion is losing its shape, not the functionality though. Now I will get the seat redone by adding foam to make it flatter and incorporate the gel pad in the foam itself. I was already convinced about the gel pad benefits, but was very happy to see that you too are enjoying it!

Very nicely done. I've always struggled with seat upholstery, but now I have a better idea what I need to do. Definitely a tedious job. Your finished product looks fantastic!

Its a crying shame this has to be done on a seat to get any comfort. Then they dont learn and the tracer 9 gt has the same issues. Glad you got it to be a bit better at least.

Yamaha gives you a lot for your money, but after a month or 2 will it you start thinking "I'd pay more for SOME quality" Next time I go for a touring bike, africa twin seat felt good to me, but some how not the NT1100😅

I thought gold wing was a pretty amazing seat as is. Make sure you you do it to a gl, don't save money, get proper gold gel so it doesn't over heat or freeze too much

The gel over heated fast. Both are off amazon now, sorry. Gold gel is better at dealing with temperature

Is the foam and gel have the save "viscosity" or density, don't know witch is the right word for it. Menaing to you take away the same depth from the foam as how thick the gel is. Or do you want to have the gel to be slightly higher then the foam so you don't fel the difference when you sit on it?

The foam sits only 1mm over the gel, it definitely more comfortable with the gel in

Let us know how you like it, personally I don’t find it adequate and springing for a nice high-quality seat what is the move for me also as you said it’s just way too hot for appointment like mine with the gel on it unless the gel is in the middle and not on top which is only the case for cushion that is manufactured with Joe in it no way to do that aftermarket unless you cut the seat cushion and half and put the gel inside yourself which is definitely possible and you could do it honestly with your experience level

I did this, it’s ok, but very little foam at the back anyway. Better was to shim the front tank bolts lifting it up 2cm.

Maybe a sheep skin on top or a blanket. I’ve seen videos of people doing this and it’s very good. Just lay flat on top then throw in your bag or it’ll get stolen.

The universal gel pad is a bit better, but less grip and higher, also rain gets the gel pad real wet for hours even a day or 2. Over all I’m happy with this mod almost 3 months in.
