Thank you so much for this! I've recently started up a new tank for my goldfish, havent moved them into yet as it's been cycling, and the tank they've been living in has been stable as 7.4-7.6 pH, where as the pH of the new tank shot up to 8.2 after I mistakenly added some substrate that I thought was just sand but clearly was something else. I've been super worried about moving them to the new tank as I was worried that was too big of a jump for them. I just spent the whole day getting all that substrate out of my tank (i didnt like the look of it anyway). I purchased some more, clean, actual sand for the tank. Did a 50% water change and re-filled it. I re-tested the water and the pH is now down to 8.0. I do have wood in it, and figure I will just let it continue to run for another few days and test again then the fish will hopefully be ready to move on in then. This video helped me calm down a bit about this issue! Thank you!
