Why not use the high pH test with the raised pH tests? I know the airstone can have a huge impact on pH levels. Within 2 hours, with just using an air stone, my tank water went from a 6 to a 7.4... I intentionally dropped the pH after removing the fish and shrimp trying to kill off scuds that had piggy backed into the tank.

The thing with making tannic tea, if your base water is hard high ph (tap water) it's not going to help much. Im thinking of using lime juice mixed with distilled water.

I think the tannic tea is better for longer periods. Especially if you’re using botanicals. I find they slowly lower the pH. I’ve never heard about using lime juice with distilled water before, let me know how it goes 🙏 Thanks for the comment ☺️

@AussieFishKeeping. i replaced my filter medium with peat pellets. It seems to be going down. I put a bunch of leaves, 3 gallons of distilled water and it was still really high. I was getting desperate.

@@joshuadecker1305 Check your KH. KH buffer the water to have a more stable pH. However a verry high KH buffers it more to the alkaline side. so a higher pH. Our house is on well water that is tested. It has basicly no minerals in it and is almost like distilled water. However it has a KH of 18 and a pH of 7.8-8. I've also tried a multitude of organic solutions and combinations between them. It annoys me to use more chemical solutions (aquarium safe of course), but the fish and especially the plants seem to be doing better after chemicly lowering de KH, resulting in achieving lower pH. Thoug I am looking to buy and instal a reverse osmosis system to mitigate this problem. Just be carefull and add them slowly so to not shock all life in your aquaruim

@@joshuadecker1305 things to keep in mind with the lime juice is that you may add extra molecules/enzymes, etc. that may be toxic to aquatic life. I found out the hard way by making a diy sponge filter out of a powdered onion bottle...

1ml per gallon? Mixing the measurement types? 😁 Would you need to change the PH gradually rather than one sudden change? Can sudden changes affect/harm the fish? I have read about soda water being used in place of carbon dioxide gas in an aquarium. That would be an interesting future topic. PS: Another well presented video, clear and concise, well done.

Yes, pH should definitely be changed over a prolonged period of time. However, I decided to do the quick 2 hour tests just for the video. I’ve never heard of soda water being used to lower pH but it does sound like it would work and I’ll definitely go into it in another video. Thanks heaps for the comment 😊🤞

what the ratio for the rain water to the tank? should I change all my water?

I’d recommend to do small water changes with the rain water at first just to see how your fish react to it. Then if everything goes well you can start increasing the volume of your water changes. ☺️ Hopefully this helps 🤞

When it comes to fish keeping, the most important thing is to keep constant water parameter including pH. Do not alter pH using vinegar. It wont stay the same level overtime. The pH fluctuation will kill sensitive fish. Best way to lower it is to mix it with RO water or if you have planted tank than use CO2 injection using controller.
