I was cleaning my sliding door with my dad's help. I told him that the end result should be that the door should slide with just a pinky finger because that's what I've seen in a YT video. My 9-year old daughter was able to do so after I did a 30-minute deep clean and lube after watching your video. Perfect end result. Thank you.

You have no idea how long it took me to find this recommendation about the lubricant, thanks for the video
@suzanned1358 Жыл бұрын
The manufacturer of my gliding doors state the following: "Do not use lubricants on the track itself; this will cause the rollers to slide, instead of roll. You can either spray the dry lubricant through the adjustment hole or remove the panel and apply the dry lubricant directly to the rollers from the bottom of the panel."

It certainly does help that those sliding glass doors are, like, 18 months old. For folks who have 20+ year old sliding glass doors, roller replacement is usually needed in addition to a good cleaning.

Moved into a newer home few months ago and the tracks were filled with grime/dirt. I used degreaser let it sit a few minutes and it wiped right up. I couldn't believe how easy it was to slide afterwards. The home is only 11 years old, pretty sure they were never cleaned prior.

I fix these doors for a living. The wheels rotate around ball bearings, lubricating the track won't make the door slide easier. If your door isn't sliding its because the ball bearings the wheel rotates around are worn and imperfect. You need to replace the wheels. The only place lubrication will make a difference is on weather stripping that causes friction. Slippery roads don't make your car faster and a slippery track won't make your door easier to roll.

Same here, this guy is completely right. Not only the rollers but if your house has settled, the door can be pinched. The silicone lubricant is like a bandage over a much larger issue. Those problems will come back.
@zookini332 жыл бұрын
I had thought about this before and it makes perfect sense. All you really need to do is keep the tracks clean. Also, some silicone sprays are not meant to be used on plastics, like vinyl. I have a Milgard vinyl patio door, but strangely enough Milgard tells you to use a vinyl lubricant on the door tracks(!). This door is large and very heavy. If I have trouble with it I'll definitely call a professional to fix it.
@ktsunami4182 жыл бұрын
@@zookini33 yes aluminum doors would use Silicone Spray Lubricant. Oddly enough, Spray ArmorAll Protectant on your vinyl door instead. You would want to spray the fuzzy trim cuz that would cause the friction when it dries up. also check the gap at the front and back of the door, there should be a gap at least a 1/4 inch from the top of the door and frame up too. If there isn’t that means the house settle and is pinching your door.

I like to buy food-grade silicone spray, you can use it for maintenance purposes like your doors and car weatherstripping and for food processing equipment. I use it on my thermos lid, clean the thermos, spray it lightly, wipe off excess and it will open easily for a few weeks. A video on how to adjust sliding door rollers would make a good follow-up video.

Yes good vid specially with the screwdriver getting under that roller on each end. I have a brand new Anderson and the first year I could open it with my pinky.. I found the staples sticking through the sheet rock creating drag on the top part of the slider I snip them off and it’s working better but I can’t pinky move it anymore and I’m pissed! my contractor installed moldings inside. since then no more pinky so I’m gonna figure out what’s going on. Now I have to actually grab the handle and slide it like a 10-year-old door. I’m gonna pull the top moldings off and the door it’s only one piece of wood called a stop that holds the door in place. I’m gonna clean the hell out of the track and see what happened I think it’s the molding that did me in.. Hmmmm! Tnks though

@mrtoad14083 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't. Contrary to popular opinion WD40 is not a lubricant, it is a solvent. It will attract grime and gunk. Teflon or silicone spray is what you ideally would use.

Your suggested silicone lubricant is no longer available unless you are willing to pay about $40 or more per container. Apparently DuPont no longer makes Teflon, and I cannot find another manufacturer who makes an equivalent spray product. There are squeeze-on Teflon lubricants in plastic containers, but I'm uncertain about how to apply it on a sliding patio door without creating an excess. Any suggestions? From Quincy Canine

@@StatUpBox Thanks for your reply. Although you said "silicone lubricant," my aged brain got stuck on Teflon being an important ingredient. I did look at and compare silicone-based lubricants but decided to make my comment anyway. CRC Heavy Duty is certainly the best compared to others. Thank you very much for excellent advice.
