I recently created a website for PSP parts, systems, and custom builds: everythingpsp.com/

How wonderfully niche this video is. I still have a lot of love for my PSP even though it is getting less and less playtime these days. I have done iso/cso backups of all my games and imported them into my PS Vita, and also have them imported into my phone (but managing save files between 3 devices gets a bit too unmanageable so at least the phone bit is just for fun). Other than that, I've repaired 3 PS3 YLODs and replaced the laser carrier for the BD drive on the original 60 GB PS3.

Personally I would be using hobby oil. Nothing wrong with white lithium or silicone grease, but I think you're adding much too much oil, 3 in 1 oil is petroleum based, usually hobby oil with a pinhead applicator is meant for gears just like this.... and I think a toothpick would be a better choice since you're not getting anything fiber wise, in the moving parts with a qtip.

This is actually an outdated procedure, since I’ve got a newer video for this that doesn’t require disassembly at all. Nowadays I just put the oil on the umd motor, and only occasionally need to add some oil to the area of the work gear where the laser assembly sits. The lithium grease isn’t needed at all. There are times that the umd drive does need to come out for much more lubrication if the process doesn’t work after many attempts. Thanks for the tip on the hobby oil with a pinhead applicator, that would help with excess in the umd compartment

It's LaBelle 107 or 108. When is plastic safe and the other isn't as much so I would definitely check which one it is but it works amazing and the pinhead applicator is about 2 in long. I didn't disassemble mine either this time around I figured I would tackle it today, I did the wheel from the outside and a little silicone grease on the worm gear and the little box and it worked just fine.

@@blakeblundell9001 do you have OEM used PSP back doors on your site? For the 1000? I've had to return two packages of Chinese made shit.
@blakeblundell900111 ай бұрын
@@whoohaaXL I don’t have any OEM black 1000 doors, since they break so often and I rarely get any decent ones from part outs. I do get good generic ones from full shells that I buy, and I’ll eventually inquire with my supplier if I can buy a large batch of just the doors. I’ve tried many of the door listings on AliExpress and they are all the same horrible quality

Yeah came here just to say that oil may not be plastic safe. Really you should be using lithium grease on everything including the gears and the rod, using a toothpick and not a qtip. Qtip leaves fibers which won't necessarily hurt but isn't great.

after i lubricated the gears (also underneath the drive), i see now much more pixels, so the resolution is quite off. i did not disconnect any ribbon cables. maybe i should check them ? any other ideas ?
@jaymesjmathias93906 ай бұрын
Personally I'd a really hoped for step by step by step in first acquiring the drive because for some reason mine us stuck, buried really somewhere IN my psp 3001 system which is quite small and I assume then tightly packed with a number of important parts I would rather not willy nilly on inner, call me cautious, truthfully call me a gamer & not an electronics repair misses😊 I'll check see, maybe you stage recorded this whole endeavor.

Is there anyway the MOTOR can be TAKEN PART by BREAKING the RIVETS? What type of RIVETS are those? Any idea? Or if anyone knows .... Please share
@blakeblundell9001 Жыл бұрын
I’ve never disassembled the motor, since lubing it almost always gets it moving again

Im new to PSPs, i have a 3000 which does appear to make more noise than the 1000 i used to use a little and the 3000 is having a distinctly hard time reading discs. Cleaning the lense and spindle with IPA didnt fix the issue. Could it be that a lubrication job like this may fix it?
@blakeblundell9001 Жыл бұрын
It would only end up being a lubrication issue if the umd motor struggles to even move. This isn’t as common, as a loud umd drive just makes it take a little longer to read and makes more noise. You likely have bad umd drive, as long as it’s not having trouble recognizing that you put something in the compartment (that both umd drive activators are compressed)
@halo3odst Жыл бұрын
@@blakeblundell9001 oh it can recognize that there is something in there occasionally and read enough data to give you the preview, may even load the software a bit. but the entire time it sounds like a chair leg rubbing against the floor.
@blakeblundell9001 Жыл бұрын
It’s probably just needing to be lubricated then. I think you can buy the 3 in 1 oil for about $6 or so in most stores like Walmart or hardware stores

I have silicone grease, gun oils and plenty of q-tips and a good amount of experience in taking things apart.

Is PSP street like the psp 1000?
@blakeblundell9001 Жыл бұрын
The street will be as easy to lubricate at a 3000. I don’t think there’s any stickers on the motor. This is actually a better video for the process: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnmkhHZtYrhsgaM
