Another important car maintenance tip: be sure to wash your car body and spray down the underbody regularly, especially during the winter time where they salt the roads. This will flush salt away, which could rust out the body and panels.

What does (Dot 3) for oil mean?
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 3 жыл бұрын
+Ada L Thanks for checking us out! This means that the fluid is Glycol-based and will have a different operating point that the other types of fluid. This is very important to follow and keep correct else there will be damage that will be done if the wrong fluid is added.

My dodge has a sealed transmission and huntington beach dodge is charging me 900 to change the transmission fluid. Not much I can do there haha

There are usually drain and fill bolts to change the fluid.

My stepson ran into this with a Crossfire he bought secondhand. I can't remember what he did to cure the transmission slippage at 102k miles. He sure didn't want to bring it to a dealer. He also had to buy a new key fob for it which bedeviled him with a no start condition that had to deal with the alarm and ignition interlock. He's very proficient in troubleshooting and fixing electronic devices. I lost track of the number of iPads and so forth that he's restored to like new condition. As for the whole sealed transmission thing I'm starting to believe, especially as I've aged, that it's better to lease a vehicle and get a new one thus avoiding all of the nightmare scenarios that go along with keeping older vehicles on the road. My brother, my stepson and I are in the middle of renewing the front suspension on an '08 GMC Yukon and it's been rust-frozen bolts which have slowed us down. We have even invented a few new words to describe certain situations we've encountered. My brother invented a tool to remove rubber from a deteriorated suspension arm bushing so he could get a Sawzall and oscillating saw in there to cut a bolt(s). Three bolts so far and counting.

What kind of dodge you have? Either way you have your transmission pan with some bolts. Just loosen them up start draining the trans pan once it drains take out all the bolts holding the pan.take pan off clean the magnet and the pan,change transmission filter put new gasket on pan and bolt it back. Just add the same amount you took off from your pan.

That is a rip off LOL!!! If you do drop the pan and remove the filter look online to see if there is an aftermarket pan with a drain plug and change pans. Then in the future you can drain and fill new fluid without having to change the filter depending how much you drive. At your own risk you can try a self-tapping screw in the pan to drain out fluid but you can't change the filter. My 2002 cavalier has the same stupid sealed transmission but I found this hack from sweet project cars youtube channel. It allowed me to drain roughly 9 quarts out of 9.5 total so I removed most of it. I didn't change the filter yet as I also found a pan online with a drain plug for my cav. When I get the pan then I'll put a new filter and do another flush. I did it around 133,000K and now I'm at 138,000K and the car shifts fine. I'm glad I put that self-tapping screw so I can flush it anytime I want. If you do end up doing in yourself dropping the pan or using the self-tapping screw make sure you use the right fluid and let it sit overnight to cool off. Simply fill up what you drained out. Don't change it when it's hot or warm as I believe it has a different density from hot to cold.
