I've watched dozens of 18th century shift videos. A handy hint I picked up was: with the side triangles, you have one side straight grain and one side on the bias. Sew the bias sides to the back and front of the garment. This prevents the bias 'relaxing', and ultimately stretching, causing a wonky hem.

Do you have a video about making pantalettes? Would love to see that, if so. Thank you

Hi Leslie, Thank you for watching. I hope to make similar videos in the very near future. I'll make sure to write this topic down on my list; I believe it's a good one.

This is called underwear? I think it looks very elegant, much more than what people wear outside where I live. I think you've piqued my interest in historical clothing.

I'm happy to receive your comment. It was the intention of this video to pique interest in historical clothing. I'm glad to hear it! We live in a society that has made wearing underwear a choice - particularly in the world of Hollywood - and underwear an outerwear. Thanks for watching! ❤️

I hope this not rude but how do u know it is linen. when going through my fabric collection I found couple yards of what I think (hope) is linen but how can you tell for sure btw I liked ur video

Organic linen has many characteristics. You'll recognize them after lots of experience working with it. Some characteristics are color - it's almost always an unnatural grayish/ecru/oatmeal color, the linen weave - it's very imperfect, and how it absorbs moisture - it usually runs along the threads when wet. I hope this helps. ❤️ And thanks for watching. ☺️

You can do things like burn and bleach tests to see if there are non-natural fibres mixed in. If you can, take a swatch to a fabric store and compare it to different fabrics :) linen has a very obvious weave, usually fairly open, but it could also be a cotton/linen blend. One long-term characteristic of linen is that it softens with repeated washing, and it wrinkles very easily.
