Many people are wondering whether there are any good clients on Upwork or not? Is it possible to close clients for a lot of money and build a real business?
Upwork is designed in the favor of the person who is buying the service and not so much in the favor of the freelancer who is selling the service. If there are some disputes, buyers tend to win.
The ability to deliver an awesome service will differentiate you from the crowd. If you do not deliver what the client needs, you will receive bad reviews, refund requests and people will no longer want to do business with you.
Some people look at freelancing platforms in a way to get a job. They are approaching this platform as cheap freelancers who compete with price. That is not a way of doing business. That is what someone is begging for a job is doing.
On the other hand, there are people who look at it as a way to generate leads for your business. Once you start thinking that way, you will realize that you can build a real business.
It is not that easy to transfer all your experience and knowledge to Upwork. In the beginning, you do not have any reviews and portfolio on Upwork.
If you want to show people that you have the skills and ability to deliver an awesome service, you need to get clients on sales calls. A sales call is where you get paid and solve problems. When you get them on a call, you can show them all your creditability. You have full control on the sales call and lead them to the close.
You need to rank on Upwork’s search engine and help them build their business. If you are fitting into their algorithm, they are going to send you as many sales as you could possibly imagine.
Think about how much money freelancer are getting paid through Upwork and how much money are getting paid outside of Upwork. Whatever numbers you see on Upwork, multiply it by 5 and you will get a better idea of the skills the freelancer has.
Most freelancers do not have a sales process. What I recommend you to do is to get mentorship. Learn from people who are a few years ahead of you. These people will coach you in lead generation, project management, delivery, hiring people and everything that you need to know to build a real business.
To get thousands of dollars of sales, you need to follow a proper process that you can copy. This is a working proven business model.
A cheap freelancer can earn 20% - 30% of what he can get per project. These people are not doing business. They have to be your employees.
Here is how a real business looks like:
• Delivery is handled by a cheap freelancer.
• You get paid premium amount of money based on the value that you provide.
• You outsource the work to cheap freelancers.
It does not matter how much competition there is. You must negotiate based on the value that you provide and do everything that you could possibly do to close the sale.
High paying agencies are very picky with who to work with. They do not talk much about price. They are interested in the value that the freelancer can provide.
The more money someone is going to pay you, the more proof they will require. A high level of proof is when you let your previous client talk to the new one and show them exactly how much money they have spent and what is their ROI.
