@holyhandgrenade34 жыл бұрын
Literally just added a dust cloud to my mini after three days of experimenting. Wish this came sooner 😂. But thisll help future projects hopefully. For the smoke, the material youre using is probably polyfoam which is the same material used to stuff teddy bears or pillows with and can be found in any craft store. You could theoretically use cotton balls also, but I found those clumped up waaay too much when they had paint on them(compared to polyfoam which can still be springy and stretched easily after paint is put on it and dried), and would be more appropriate for big dense clouds/explosions then dust trails.

Being 34 and starting the hobby at 31, that feeling is normal for anyone just starting out. You can't get better until you try different stuff. Enjoy the hobby and have fun man! My only recommendation is to always keep one of your earlier models so you can look back and see your improvements.

Gotta fail to learn...
@MrTrenttness4 жыл бұрын
Take those risk. If you start now, in 4 years you'll look back on your progress and skill and thank yourself. Painting miniatures is a trivial challenge in grand scheme of things, but teaching yourself to take risk and believe in your skill and hard work will be applicable to most everything in life. We've all painted ugly mini's. But we keep painting so we better our skills.
@mrheisenberg834 жыл бұрын
Always remember that there is no such thing as failure in painting minis, just progress. Do not strip old models, keep them as a reminder how far you have come and how far you can still go. It helps tremendously. Painted models, even badly painted ones, always look good when put on the table in a squad. And a painted one is always superior to an unpainted one. So keep at it, make mistakes, learn from them and improve. You will love every second of it! Tip: Paint your troops first and save the characters for when you have that practice from your troops. And never try to be perfect, it won't happen for a long time. Comparing yourself to pros CAN be helpful but can also demotivate you. One step at a time and you will get there.

I really want to be able to 3-D print the minis, that I keep imagining, but I guess the logical first step is to decide upon which CAD or 3d-graphics program to use for making the designs, and then really dig through all the necessary tutorials to learn to make the software sing. What is a good program to invest my time in, and do you know about good tutorials? Is Blender decent for that job? (It's free and it does have a good collection of tutorials) Or should I be rather looking for CAD than for graphics programs for "modeling"?
