Hi great video Could you share the cake recipe you use... as it looks firm and easy to sculpt. The sponge recipe I use is too soft and crumbles. Thanks for sharing you video 👍
@ArtCakes2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks ❤️ For carved and sculpted cakes, you need to use a good pound cake or, at least, a butter cake. Sponge cakes don't work well. I use the sour cream pound cake recipe by Paula Deen. 🙂 Hope this helps.

HELLO. IM LOOKING INTO ADDING THIS TYPE OF CAKE TO MY MENU AND HAD A QUESTION ABOUT PRICING ON A CAKE SUCH AS THIS AWESOME ONE THAT YOU MADE. I LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA
@ArtCakes Жыл бұрын
Hi. I don't know how much it would be in your area but here in the Philippines I charge around 3,500 - 4,000 pesos (around $70 - $80) for this one. Now (if my knowledge serves me right), in the US, I believe $250-$300 for this kind of cake is already cheap especially considering the labor involved in making it. But don't just take my word for it though. I suggest the best thing for you to do is ask around or in the nearby cities, where it's available, how much they would charge for a custom cake like this. Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

I would like to know what tools are you using for the detail of the shoe if you don't mind sharing them.

I used the tools from Wilton 10 pcs Gum Paste and Fondant Tool Set. I don't know the name of each tool. It also has the same tool in the set as that yellowish one I used here.

Just found out. The blue-green colored tool is called "Frilling stick". My wife said the yellowish tool is a blade or knife tool for fondant/gumpaste.

The one I used for making the sewing seams mark is a wheel tool which is in the Wilton 10 pcs tool set.

I have a request for this as a topper. Im in Arkansas, USA. What do you think is a fair price? I would normally charge $40 for the 10" two layer cake it will be on.

How can we keep the cake in fridge?
@ArtCakes Жыл бұрын
We normally don't refrigerate our fondant-covered cakes. Living in a tropical country, condensation will happen once you remove the cake from the fridge. And it can make your fondant "bleed" or melt. If you must, put your cake in a cake box, covered, before putting it in the fridge. If you still need to work on it, wait until it no longer looks and feels wet. Let it come to room temp and air-dry it. Only then can you resume working on it. Hope this helps. 😊

Would $200 USD be a fair price for a similar cake ?
@ArtCakes Жыл бұрын
Depends on where you are. $200 is more than fair here in the Philippines. If I'm not mistaken, it could go well over $300 in LA or New York 'coz a niece in California once told me it cost her $315 for a simple spiderman cake.

Minimum how much of the shoe cake we can make and is there any ration or any rough idea of wasted and used amount of sponge to make this cake?
@ArtCakes3 жыл бұрын
I suppose a 9 inch shoe can be made out from a 8 x 8 inch cake. The smaller you make it, the more difficult the details to make. As you can see in the video I used approximately 95% of the 9x9 inch cake to make a 10 inch shoe cake.

do you have templates for the details of this shoes?

This is amazing! How much would a cake like this go for? I’m a beginner at baking and someone is requesting a cake similar to this and I don’t know how to price it. They want it to feed 15 people.
@ArtCakes3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on where you are located and in my experience, it's more pricy in Manila area than any other place here in the Philippines. Ironically, the cost of ingredients is cheaper in Manila. I guess the cost of living in an area is a big factor. Anyway, here in Cebu it's around 3K, that is, for those who appreciate the art. It would also depend on how much you value your time ('coz this takes time) and your effort. I hope this helps. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions. I'm glad to be of help and thank you for the appreciation.
@ArtCakes3 жыл бұрын
Oh, by the way, I used a 9 x 9 inch cake on this one. I don't think it's enough for 15 persons. It's good for 7 or 8 only. You could do a pair though of this size. I think that would be enough for 15.

@ArtCakes3 жыл бұрын
@@clairressagoad2789 I did not actually time it but my guess is around 3-4 hours from the time I started carving it to the time of completion. That includes preparing the fondant (I use ready to roll fondant) and the breaks needed to check video camera and the like, coz I do it myself as well. The first time I made one like this though, probably took me 7 hours coz I was too careful carving it and getting it to the right shape with buttercream took a while.
