Just a technical note: silicone cures by absorbing moisture/humidity, not by drying out. Had you moistened the sand first, that would have helped it to cure faster. Organic materials like coffee grounds and corn meal naturally absorb humidity and might make a better medium than sand for this project. Well, better? More like different. Yours worked perfectly, so the coffee grounds or corn meal would provide a slightly different texture.

Thank you for this. I’ve made endless moulds using pourable silicone the release against we’re always wet and the silicone still cured fine. As for putting organic materials inside silicone I’m always worried about mold. Organic materials always tend to disintegrate over time! Silicone is a marvellous material if you understand its abilities!

It would be hard for me to use moistened materials! I have casted a lot of silicone moulds and with moisture on the surface of the original was an issue!

So easy to do. The roller is almost indestructible because it is encapsulated with lots of high grade silicone. The gaskets in the pail lids are incredibly strong as well and bind to the silicone perfectly! Give it a try!

Works amazingly. Could be stupid but when I roll it on cement it looks so good!
