In this tutorial, Hanna shows you ho to make a basic willow wreath using 6 foot withies. Longer rods can also be used for this project, you wont need as many when the rods are slightly longer!
Finding materials for your wreath provides a lovely opportunity for you and the family to get outside & discover what interesting things nature has to provide (especially in autumn!) GET CREATIVE & think outside the box when looking for materials by gathering more unconventional pieces to add for a more unique style ie - heather, birch, feathers etc
Please note that before you can work with this type of willow, you will need to soak it for a set amount of days usually one day per foot of rod length and therefore needs a little fore planning.
Soaking the willow makes it nice and flexible to work with. Try soaking the willow in a soaking bag, or in the bath (please be aware that tannins in the willow bark may stain your bath) or a makeshift outdoor pond/pool or trough (if you have one that is!)
Another GREAT alternative if you cannot afford to buy willow is to use dogwood. Wait until all the leaves have fallen off and cut to acquired length. They provide great colour to a wreath and are nice and flexible to work with + no need for soaking !
