This is absolutely beautiful and the turned design on the handle reminds me of the old cabinet makers of New England with wood crafts worth 100,000 art furniture collection in museums. Keep up the amazing super talented artist work. Thank you for sharing your how to video with the artist admiring public . Crafter in Atlanta Georgia Dave

Nice work! I also turn spatula’s. I was inspired by Richard Raffan and it’s really helped improve my skew skills. I still need to be more consistent with cutting out my spatula blanks.
@Pipejawood-WoodturningАй бұрын
I have to learn a lot about turning with skew. It is very important how you cut out the blank for the spatula; I have messed up a few times.

I also make spatulas but never tried the lathe technique. Hope you don’t mind if I copy your turning! Great job. My spatulas are the best for egg in a pan as the wood doesn’t damage the non stick. Great for cleaning up the pan as well.

Thank you very much. Of course, I don't mind. I will be happy if you make spatulas like mine.

@Pipejawood-Woodturning2 ай бұрын

Thank you. You are right. This project has some very dangerous areas to work in, so I am always careful where I put my fingers. But my new video on how I make a spoon on the lathe is even more dangerous: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnWUiJKseJJ5Y80

Very nice. What kind of wood do you use for spatulas? What do you coat them with if any thing?
@Pipejawood-Woodturning2 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting on our video. These spatulas I have made from plum, walnut, and oak wood and coated them with Danish oil. I have coated them so they look nicer, but it is not necessary to coat them. In the future, I will be making spatulas from fruitwood because they do not have tannin inside.

Good job but is Danish oil a food safe coat?
@Pipejawood-Woodturning2 ай бұрын
Thank you. Yes, Danish oil has a certificate for a food-safe finish.
@GregParkemusic1Ай бұрын
I often use a 50/50 mix of mineral oil and paraffin, melted with a heat gun on food items. I heat the mix in a tin can, and apply a liberal amount on the item to be finished, then hit it again with the heat gun so it really soaks in. Make a nice clean non glossy finish, and water just beads up on the surface

That is a proper use of a lathe. Might not be what a first time user would try, but anyone with experience can perform this just fine.
