How to Make a Bee Watering Station | Pollinator Water Fountain

Providing a source of water for pollinators such as bees and butterflies is a great addition to your garden. You can easily build a bee water station to help attract pollinators using a tray and rocks along with your existing drip irrigation system.

In this gardening video, I share how to make a watering station for pollinators like bees and butterflies to attract them to your garden. Pollinators are crucial to the growth and success of your plants, especially vegetables like squash and zucchini.
To make the watering station, you'll need a tray, rocks, and a drip irrigation system already installed. You can find a cheap tray and use rocks from your yard or buy them at a home improvement store. I demonstrate how to place the rocks in the tray to create a surface for insects to access the water without falling in, including building up one area higher than the rest to create a waterfall-like flow. Connect a drip emitter to the watering station and secure it with a rock. Once installed, the watering station will automatically refill every day when your plants are watered by the drip system. The video is aimed at new gardeners and experienced gardeners to help in creating a successful backyard vegetable garden.

Daily drip irrigation will keep the water from getting stagnant. Sadly, where we live, we're on outdoor watering restrictions once a week (our assigned day is Saturday). So, we can't use this idea to keep the water fresh on a daily basis.

Try not to use a tray that will always have standing water in it. Mine dries out each day by late afternoon, but also running a hose in it once every week or so should be enough to keep mosquitoes at bay.

Love your channel! So grateful! I’m a little concerned about attracting those outdoor cockroaches that might want to live underneath it- any ideas on helping out with that. (Unfortunately I’ve seen these yucky insects at night throughout the city, and our property. I try to keep things super tidy in order avoid them, but it’s also nature in dealing with lol.
