How to make a Bitcoin Paper Wallet

In this video I show you how to use Bitaddress.org to create a Bitcoin paper wallet to store your funds safely offline.
NOTE - To have the highest level of security possible, this would be done on a computer that has never and will never connect to the internet. This minimizes the odds that any sort of malware could be installed on your system and gain access to your private keys. Do you know if there's a way to receive funds from a paper wallet without totally sweeping it? Or do you have to take the full amount using this cold storage technique? Thanks a lot.

Technically you can access a paper wallet and send a specific amount from it. The Mycelium wallet gives you this option when you sweep this way. However I would highly recommend about this. A paper wallet is secure because the private key that allows you to spend the funds has never been online (assuming you've created it correctly). As soon as you scan your private key to spend from a paper wallet, it is only as secure as the device you've scanned it with. That means if your phone is compromised, someone could essentially clear out any BTC you leave on that paper wallet. Since creating paper wallets is free, I would recommend clearing the paper wallet to something like copay or mycelium, then sending the funds you'd like to keep in savings to a brand new paper wallet.

Ah ok that makes a lot of sense. But they would presumably have to compromise the phone, and also have access to the paper wallet itself? Or does the fact that the private key has been entered and the 'Spend' QR scanned on the phone mean that just the phone would be enough to clear out the wallet? You're right on second count - once they have access to the phone, the fact that you've scanned the wallet once means they would then have seen and been able to clear the rest of the funds. No problem! Glad I could help.

Also make sure any printer you print your paper wallet on has never been connected to the Internet and is offline. Otherwise, a virus running on the printer will be looking for your private keys.

So, in the end, you depend on the app and the developers of copay to not steal your data and password from the old wallet. Meaning that in order to be very protected (or at least a bit more) you would have to send from a new wallet every single time...

Paper wallets are essentially for one time use. You can load it up with coin but when you take the coin off you should take it all off and later make a new wallet with new keys later to keep it safe.

why generate a new wallet address, where you move the mouse around, and get the non-decorated paper wallet...if you then go on the choose the paper wallet with the art-work...they have different address/keys at this point. Are they still connected? I'm trying to figure this out, thanks

Good video(s) . I want to comment on 2 things you do/say in this video : - You say that you can't sweep a paper wallet if the QR code is unreadable(unscannable) . This is not true . You can still sweep a paper wallet without scanning a QR code if you can read the private key or have the private key stored elsewere . - I would personally advise against using BIP38 encryption . Not all clients support it , and if people forget the password they lose all of their bitcoins stored in the paper wallet . You can write down the password on the paper wallet (or store it alongside the wallet) but that would not make any sense as it doesn't add more security that way . I would also advise to keep the keys of the paper wallet on an encrypted USB stick somewhere on another location instead of putting multiple copies of the paper wallet in different places .

Where can you find a computer that you know for sure has never been connected to internet? I have not bought one recently but as far as I can remember, they all have been tested to work with internet and therefore have been at some point connected, even for a short time.
