@gnourt007
@gnourt007 5 жыл бұрын
By limiting the amount of space for the roots to extend you keep the three small. It also encourages the existing roots to go in denser with more feeder roots so that you can cut back on the amount of main roots. Hope that helps.

Now THAT is what I am looking to achieve in terms of material and overall look and scale from my trees. I don't think it is entirely necessary to grow something in the ground for 100 years and cut it back and allow it it grow and cut it back some more do this and do that.....all these procedures that protract the whole process to years. Unless you are aiming for a trunk with a thickness you could moor a small yacht to. Ha-ha-ha-ha. Seriously now, the Chamaecyparis material in the video is simple to create something from which looks great within a small amount of time. It only took about 4 minutes from raw material to a bonsai. And the effect is very good to. I don't want something huge. Something like that is perfect.

All good stuff BE. The wire pretty much still causes me one or two issues. When tying it down I was told to use the twist-and-pull method but it looks very fiddly to begin with. How do I get that initial twist? Also when wiring the branches I head a lot about the measurements. Not being great at maths on account of a slight learning problem can anyone suggest any easy methods of assessing what thickness of branch requires what thickness of wire?
@kevinblaz8926
@kevinblaz8926 9 жыл бұрын
It's based on how tight a branch is. Try pushing the wire towards the branch. If the wire bends, then try a thicker gauge.if it doesn't bend, you're all good. Now to apply wire, you should pinch the wire and branch as you go up. Best of luck!

a little bit of stress actually triggers the plant to grow, similar to how underfeeding a plant will grow it bigger than an over-fertilized one.

Actually makes sense, thanks for the tip. I did a White spruce last year, few weeks after I started bonsai, and being a rookie of course I did everything in one day. From nursery tree to being pruned, wiring and repotting. I was told it was to much and the tree would surely die. I'm glad to say that new shoots are popping up all over the tree now.
