When I first saw this video I thought: oh god. at only 4 minutes it's gonna be one of those usless speed videos with no commentary" Not only was I dead wrong but I found this one more helpfull then a lot of the 30 minute videos. kudos.

Tips before you make a journal: - When ur making holes to sew through, make sure not to make them TOO far from the edge (I drilled my holes almost a centimeter from the edge bc I thought if I did it too CLOSE to the edge, the holes might just rip through and all my pages would collapse.) I’d say 3-5 millimeters is a good distance to drill the holes. - the wood used to make hardcovers is the same wood used for clipboards and binders (I took the wood from a binder and used that) - the flyleaf (the page that’s put on the inside of the cover) should be glued to ONLY the cover, not the first page as well. I was dumb and glued the flyleaf to the first page of my book

I take the pages out of old books (just hardcover dregs from the bookstore) and hot glue my fresh pages into those and put the cover over that. Cutting your own hardboard is an easy step, but just in case someone wanted an alternative, I thought I'd share

3:34 - I'd probably do this with a thin layer of PVA, copydex or some other slower drying glue that can be pushed around as you flatten the paper. Hot glue tends to warp paper as its not really designed to glue paper flat. It will dry quicker if it's put on thinly or flattered and so will lead to a bumpy finish and may completely fail to grip areas where air bubbles have got in. Air bubbles are hard to push out from hot glue as they actually cool and harden the glue as you try to push them out. Hot glue is better for thicker hard materials or fabrics where excess glue can seep into the weave. If you have used hot glue on something that you need to be flat, you can iron it to reactivate it and hopefully that will fix the issue.

This is a video I would recommend to anyone who doesn't know much about this leatherworking topic and wants to make something like this. It is widely informative, and it may be fast, but you can clearly see the effort in all his work. Please like his video, this is very useful and he deserves it. I do not know what he used to make holes in the papers, so if anyone has the answer can you please tell me?

Better than most longer videos. Can you sew the pages together differently because most of the books I own are sewn through the center of the page fold in groups of 8-10 sheets (folded in half) then put into the hard back. I really like the fact that you don't just fold the leather over itself on the corners like most videos do but you take the time to cut and shape it in so there isn't any extra thickness. Great video and will be using this for gifts. Many thanks.

Now i know how to make a journal! Or a book. I might be an illustrator when i grow up and a great start on how to make a book! A bit better than the channel at Nerd forge but Both of you guys or gals are fairly Creative! All it is is that, Do all books have a leather cover to color a picture as a cover or what materials to make like a normal book cover.
