I did something similar when I was in highschool. I used cereal boxes and glued old calendars. I didn't glue it to the textbook, but made a "pocket" where the front and back covers could slip in. For the spine, I glued the bottom first, the. Put the slip on and kinda wrapped the cover around the spine so you don't need to worry about any margins of error.

Actually, for coloring, there's a feature on Word that can color the whole background of the page (and you'll still see your text) Click the Design option at the top of your document, and the Page Color option will be on the upper right hand corner, next to Watermark and Page Borders. Then just choose from the Standard colors or do Custom!

Ooh, lovely! I've never used that type of paper but I've used delicate, handmade paper (such as hand marbled or even traditional origami paper) as the internal end paper/free end papers & it has been a lovely way to have a flash of colour & interest in hardcover books. I would suggest this would probably be a longer-lasting way to use it, as it wouldn't be as exposed as much as the exterior cover.

This is so cool!! Would it be possible to do this with the kind of corrugated cardboard that most boxes are made of? E.g. the kind Amazon/moving boxes are made of
@victoriaperry9465 Жыл бұрын
Hi Abby, I have been looking into doing this with several of my older books. I wouldn't recommend using corigated cardboard becuuse the flexablity will effect the durability of the cover and spine. I am also not sure what chemicals are used in the process of making the corriagated cardboard. If you look up "davey board" that is what is used for traditional book binding but it costs more. You can also use chip board but it's less durable then davey board. The back of old sketchbooks is a resource many people ahve used becuase they are typically made out of chip board. Best of luck!
@schum4nn11 ай бұрын
Hi! I've got a few question, and I would love your help to understand this whole bookbinding art better: I have not tried this one yet, but I have the impression that using a simple A4 sheet of paper with no finish to protect it but the painting will just wear off with time - similar to how books normally wear off (taking your final result as an example, the brown paper would begin to show white bits here and there, signal of tearing). Question 1: Is this nonsense? If so, what part of your process prevents this? Question 2: Does this make sense? If so, what can I do to avoid this effect? Thank you for your great work! I never saw a tutorial that felt so simple and achievable as yours. Keep up the good work!
