Leaks in the inlet tract after the MAF would result in a weak mixture, not a rich one. Also, I assume that the air/fuel ratio of c. 12:1 was measured during the full power runs on the dyno? That would be entirely typical. The 14.7:1 ratio only applies during light throttle opening. The engine needs a richer mixture during full throttle operation for a variety of reasons. 14.7:1 fuel/air ratio is principally used to minimise emissions.

Typical of a flash map, the 1 size fits all approach does not work with modified cars. Get a good custom map and you will probably see a small increase in bhp but a big difference in driveability. £600 is also expensive. Give Sean McGarry a call at SM Tuning nr Heathrow, he also does mobile tuning and will talk you through every step of the process.

Thanks for the tuning contact. I'll give him a ring.

many many moons ago, a check engine light went on in my old 2001 boxster s and i brought it back to the dealer.. it was good news and bad news.... good news was that the car was stuck in full aspiration mode... and the check engine light could be deactivated. As it was explained to me: in lower rpm the car does not 'roar' and it is not a nuisance in neighborhood driving hence car not fully aspirated... the ecu 'realizes' your driving pattern and full aspiration mode kicks in when you stomp your boxster.. i did not do any mods... but added chevron octane boost every 1/2 tank of premium unleaded, with recommended usage of 1 octane boost every full tank. the bad news is that it can be reset back to factory. i asked to just turn off engine light warning :)

In general, I doubt that a custom dyno tune would really add much power at all. The manufacturers figured that out a while back, and don't leave much on the table. However, you may gain a significant amount of responsiveness at part loads, because the new tune should be optimized for all out performance, rather than a blend of performance and drivability.

How about the O2 sensors - they have a great effect on mixture control
@Hazard4K4 жыл бұрын
they tell the computer what the AF ratio is, they don't "effect" the mixture.

Great video once again! Can't decide if to stick my Cayman throttle body on my 3.2 987? It worked well on the 986s although it made the throttle pedal very sensitive a low speed! Keep up the good work on here and the forum 👍

Thanks Gareth, glad you continue to like them. Not done any research but isn't the Cayman 987 TB the same as the Boxster 987?

Great vid! Really impressive gains too! I wonder if similar mods were done to the 987 that they may see similar gains? Maybe more so the 3.4?
@RoadandRacetv8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tom! Since we put 987 or 996 parts on the 986 I'm not sure about gains for the 987. Maybe 981 or 991 parts might go on it?

Would like to see a decent custom map from a reputable tuner also have you gone 200cell sports cats or decats in the manifolds?

Me too! Just need to find the money. Good point, they were 100 cel cats.

More power from the stock map? That's interesting.
@RoadandRacetv8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, who'd of thought? Just goes to shows either how adaptable the Porsche map is or how bad the Stage 1 was!
@roelfkromhout8 жыл бұрын
Makes you wonder what the point of remapping is. If the stock map does adapt (so completely and effectively), one would have to assume that all restrictions (in terms of emissions) are purely hardware based.

I'm not even a Porsche fan and I like this channel. I also drive the competition of the time, an s2000. Love the videos! Keep them coming!

Why didn’t you just get it mapped properly at the beginning? This was a bit poor; obviously neither a standard map nor an off the shelf map is going to be correct. Your other videos are good.
