DIY How to Make A Bushcraft Wilderness Chair • How to Make A Bushcraf...
Mike & Big Toe demonstrate how to make an easy wilderness chair using a Silky Gomboy saw. Whether you are out for the weekend bushcrafting or in a real survival situation, sitting on cold, wet, or frozen ground will make you miserable. Even sitting on a log is uncomfortable after a short period of time. Having a comfortable, dry lace to sit with back support is going to make your time in the wilderness a lot more pleasant. Carrying a chair is not an ideal situation. A comfortable camp chair is bulky and a small camp chair is not usually comfortable. So what is the solution? The solution is to make a comfortable chair when you need it at your camp. Woodsmen the world over have in the past made simple but effective wilderness chairs out of saplings near their campsites. The type of chair shown in the video is a chair used by native Siberians. It is a simply and utterly brilliant design that takes only minutes to make and is very comfortable and dry. In wintertime this chair really shines. It will keep you off the snow and off frozen logs while giving your back support and keeping your bottom dry around the fire.

Great video, ill have to give it a shot. Any chance you could make a video about your belt kit you have on? I see your using the gi pistol belt but was just wondering what you carry in your kit? Also what kind of pants are those you have in?

We have a video coming out in the next couple weeks that covers all my nylon web gear/tactical vest/belt/backback gear, called Load Bearing Equipment. I will do a more inclusive video on what is on my belt, as well as EDC kit in the near future. My pants are TruSpec 24/7 tactical pants. Super comfortable, lots of pockets, made of excellent material, etc. I rather enjoy them. :) Thanks for watching

looks like a great idea but I rather make a chair and not have to tie it to a tree unless I'm making a latrine or shelter. I enjoyed this video certainly more techniques for me to learn he better

This is meant to be a quick and easy chair to make that does not require as much work and energy output to make like a regular bushcraft chair does. Thanks for watching

Are you going to have classes in Michigan coming up again? didn't see any on your calendar on the website.

At the moment we are doing private small classes for clients. We are also looking into securing private land to hold bigger classes again. We had to stop larger classes when the land we were using through family/friend was sold. Once we have land that can accommodate larger groups again, we will list more classes. Keep checking back because once we have land, we will be building the SOSR headquarters survival school!

I was looking to do something similar to sigma3's courses where you work up to a surviving off the food you gather instead of bringing any thing like their scout course. You guys don't exactly seem to have that but you're in Michigan too which is a lot closer than Missouri :)

Our beginner class is that way. I provide food and water on the beginner class for the students, but make them scavenge food and set snares and fishing traps too, so they are learning skills. My more advance classes students must survive off the land completely, no bringing food from home.

Well I'll totally be coming out for your classes at some point then. Let me know when you got it set up.

If these are children's chairs, then at night the 2 legs can be staked up, and they become a triangle raised bed. Larger tree chairs with paracord/rope lashing, and they become an adult raised bed.

well this IS an adult chair that we made, it can easily support 300lbs.

And it certainly feels good to sit down on after a long hard day.

I'd be interesting in seeing what 10 items you'd bring if you were on the alone show from their list

My ALONE tv show 10-pick gear: 1 Silky Big Boy Folding Saw 1 Samick Sage Take-down Bow with 6 arrows 1 3.5lb roll of trapping wire 1 Becker BK7 Knife 1 Kifaru International -20degree Multi-season Sleeping Bag 1 Guyot Stainless Steel Wide-mouth Water Bottle 1 2qt (1.6 liter) MSR metal pot w/ lid (or East German Mess Tin if allowed) 1 300 yard rolls of fishing line with 25 assorted hooks 1 Ferro Rod Set (6" by 1/2" size) 5lb Beef Jerky

Before anyone freaks out- I chose not to take paracord because I only had 10 items and the trapping wire is more valuable for trapping, building a good sturdy shelter to stay dry and safe, and between the trapping wire and the fishing line I did choose, I can get by without the paracord.

I don't think you'd get the samick sage bow because they specify primitive bows

You're right, the Samick Sage has fiberglass limbs, I had forgotten that. Laminated limb Martin take-down would be my next choice, or other primitive bow that meets their rules in a 40# draw. Guess I didn't read the website as well as I thought (scrolling up and down between what gear is provided, and what lists to choose from = eye strain!) lol!

SchoolOf SelfReliance if you went paracord you could make a bundle bow or go to an atlatl and pick another tool
