Dr Dan Wallace is a Founder and Executive Director of the Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts. He is the Senior Research Professor Emeritus of New Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. As an internationally known Greek New Testament scholar, Dr Wallace has been a consultant for several Bible translations and is currently on the Committee on Bible Translation (CBT), which is responsible for the NIV.

Saying the later scribes who added the clarification (the variant) to Romans 8:1 did so because they thought they didn't want people to think Paul was saying people could "get away with sinning" is a wrong assumption based on later Protestant theology that Paul would have never had, because he didn't live in the 1500s when such theology originated. The point of Romans 8:1 is that those who are in Christ Jesus (living in obedience to him) are ALREADY doing the works that fulfill the law through the Spirit (and not by the letter). By being in Christ, they are therefore not under the curse of the law, and so they are without condemnation. That is how to understand Romans 8:1 properly in its context. If you think this is about substitutionary atonement, you are reading a much later and foreign idea into Romans that has nothing whatsoever to do with Paul, his background, or the context of Romans, and such an interpretation of Romans results in Romans not being able to be understood as a consistent cohesive whole... Moreover, this shows that bad theology can even affect text-critical decisions, which means theology should be uplifted as an important field to understand even for textual critics.

Minor quible: at about 8:35 Dr. Wallace says we follow the 7 ecumenical councils. The Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church do affirm all 7 as true, authoritative, and even infallible. As an evangelical Protestant, I do not. The 7th council teaches that anyone who objects to the veneration of icons is cursed. I hope Dr. Wallace doesn't believe that. I doubt he does.

Im not convinced there was an original NT. By 'original NT I that the scholar only means that the compositions have been faithful transmited. That might be true. I cant verify that. Yet, how does that prove the canon of the N.T.? Its both that the list of books must be God-breathed and that they have been reliably transmitted. The canon is very difficult to verify.

Strong case of what Paulogia calls, "Argumentum ad Bartium". An important difference between Professors. Ehrman and Wallace: is that Ehrman at UNC Chapel Hill has academic freedom to reach and state any conclusion that convinces him. While Wallace may be entirely sincere, he has no such freedom. Look up the "Doctrinal Statement" of the Dallas Theological Seminary. I'm less impressed with a scholar stating a conclusion when I know that stating a different one would get him fired, sincere as that conclusion may be.

@@peterk.6930 The teachings in the NT are not from God, no other person can die for your sins, nor is Jesus God's only begotten son, that was David, and God's other sons are Israel. Many of the teachings by Jesus are in contrast to what the tanach tells us and lack the hedges required as God's law include, to make the law possible to be upheld. The NT is not God's word. As a gentile following the Noahide path is the right way to go when it comes to God, if you are not Jewish by birth🙏🏼
