This video shows you step by step how to make a Castle Tower/Guard Tower for your tabletop RPG! I play 5e D&D, but it's really perfect for any tabletop gaming.
I use a proxxon hot foam cutter when working with foam, but you can use a knife and get pretty close to the same results!
This doesn't need to be expensive by any means. I think if you only counted the parts of the materials I actually used, this came out to less than 5$. Of course there are a lot of up front costs, but if you have most of the materials already on hand, this is a pretty cheap build!
I used XPS foam, paints from walmart, mod podge, hot glue, a bunch of coffee stirrers, some PVA glue, and a ton of time. I sealed everything in a thin coat of polyurethane at the very end to make sure that the house was protected once I was all said and done.
For a custom piece of terrain like this, I am extremely happy with how everything turned out. I made this as an extension of my very first piece of terrain, and it matched up pretty well! I couldn't have asked for better results!
If you have any ideas for what you would like to see built in the future, let me know in the comments down below! Then subscribe so you don't miss any new videos coming out in the future! Also, if you liked this, gimme that sweet sweet like.

To make the diagonal, slide the top wire spool holder towards the bend of the top arm so the wire runs from the top arm down to the table at an angle. Then run your bricks through as normal and voila, angle cuts

If you want to cut at an angle. You can do that perfectly just by moving back the top part (The Wire reel) back along the proxxon arm. That's why there are 2 knobs there, One for the wire reel and one to unlock the part and move it back to the desired angle.

Boi, I need a dice organizer that can kinda hang off my dm screen. table space is a premium so the more air-space it takes up the better! so.. must haves: easy to place/reach. minimize table space hang off dm screen (not necessary but I thought it would be helpful). if it can house the dice that's a plus.

how would you do a destructible wall? Like battle at Helms Deep style where you have planned that an invading horde will blow up a wall?

I would honestly just make a wall with the bricks and maybe put a TINY amount of glue on the corners to hold them up, but enough to where they could be dislodged if struck.

Just watched this video after your siege tower video. Another fantastic video! This gives me a couple questions (as I mentioned, I do historical and fantasy medieval wargaming). 1) Have you ever modeled machicolations, or is that over-engineering a piece of defensive terrain? 2) Would you have any advice on attempting to do a whitewash/limewash coating on walls and towers?
@Rybonator
@Rybonator 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I am glad you like them :) 1- I have not modeled them, but that is purely because I prefer this aesthetic, it makes things easier to mod, and create pieces that fit with one another. They are fantastic, but I think general crenelations get the job done just fine for the most part :) 2- I would paint the whole thing white instead of black, then go over it with a cream white, a light brown wash, and then finally a couple varrying grays for drybrushing :)

Hey man not sure how well this would work but you can move the thing that holds the wire on the cutter, making an angle for the little triangle pieces you made. Just a thought, nice work tho! Got a sub out of me :p On that note, do you have a vid for the gatehouse you made?
@Rybonator
@Rybonator 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I had no idea. I need to exoeriment some more. :) Thanks for watching! Glad you like the content. No i don't, it was actually my first terrain project ever, so it was all a kind of test of what I could do. Essentially I left that gate opening and slide some coffee stirrers in between in a weave pattern. Maybe I'll make another similar gate someday.:) but for now, the build process is the same as my tower, except I rotated the blocks 90 degrees for every 2 that I put down. I should have done the same for this tower to keep it symmetrical, but I wanted this to also stand on it's own and not require the gate.
@tattooman3603
@tattooman3603 3 жыл бұрын
Lol, didn't see this comment was on here already, so I made the same suggestion. It works like a charm. Put a pencil mark on the top arm so the cut is repeatable at a later date if you wish to repeat the cuts for a second or third tower.

A few times you mention the gate as if you made it in a previous video. I noticed you took out the pokemon case video too. If you don't mind me asking, why are you making these videos private? It's just that much less Rybonator content for us to enjoy, and trust me, we enjoy every second of it! Even when you mess up a bit ;) (Because we know we'll mess up just as bad, even with your warnings :)
@Rybonator
@Rybonator 4 жыл бұрын
I didn't actually make a video with the gate. It was just my first ever build, and it was in the same style. I only made the Pokemon Case Private because it doesn't have a ton to do with what I do now, and I'm not proud of the final result enough to keep it in. I don't want newcomers to go back to my "First" builds and think that those are the levels at which I deem acceptable in videos now. I know leaving them in shows growth in style and what I can accomplish, but that's why I leave these old DnD ones in. :) I am glad you enjoy it, I have had an event that has caused me to be VERY motivated to try and put more out there. So hopefully I'll keep giving you the content you want. :)

@@Rybonator Rybonator oh yes. you can! just set the wire on 90° angle. Mark left side from the screw thing wich you tightned the wire before. there is this little metal sleigh. you know what i mean. left from that put a mark with permanent sharpie. then loose that thing. and loose the wire that it can be released from the role! then, pull the sleight so that the wire is on needed angle. thight the wire and the sleight. then work with the angle. then you can put it back to 90° very fast. And if you want you can put down a 45° mark for easy switching.

Wouldn't it be easier to just make four walls and then etch the brick pattern into them?
@Rybonator
@Rybonator 5 жыл бұрын
Yes it would be easier, BUT it wouldn't look like what I was going for. It would look like a perfectly flat brick wall. The hand laying gives it that 'This is an old building and it isn't perfectly straight etc.' feel that I was going for. By all means you can make something equally as good the way you are describing! Just not what I was going for. :)
