How to make a cat wheel

Hand made cat exercise wheel for Mystic. Took few days to build it and I tried to make it with very low budget. Its not perfectly roundish, but my cat enjoys running on it every day and sometimes at night as well. :D So If I remember correctly then price range was something like this: (I hope it helps)
Caster wheel / Wheel system 8€
Panel stain 8€
Varnish 7€
Sand paper 1€
Screws 5€
Bolts about 3€
Plywood- 0€ (for free )
Glue- 0€ (for free)

Thanks, good idea and cheap...but will go for the bearing option instead of the caster wheel. They are not designed for those vertical loads. It will wear out quickly. Otherwise a great & cheap solution. Here they cost about 400 dollars and this you can build yourself (if you have to buy all yourself) for about 60 dollars. Not bad 😉

Still running great on this caster after 2,5 years, but had to tighten some screws, where the cat wheel supports on board. Would like if its a bit more steady, but will do the thing and Mystic still loves it :D Thanks for great comment! ;)

How thick is the round plywood back? Diameter? How thick is the plywood used to wrap around the circular back?

There seems to be some problems with this design, besides the surface is too slippery. The wheel is not round and I doubt that small bearing works well for such a big wheel. A lazy suzan bearing would work better, and maybe a secondary wheel to support the front edge to take some weight off the bearing.

Idea was to make it as easy and durable as possible with very low budget. Almost everything is holding up nicely but the wooden post where caster bearing is attached is a bit loose, so I need to tighten this thing up. But almost two years on use and still in great working order ;)

Bearings have lasted very well( despite he uses it every day), but I have to redesign a base, because it started to tilt a little bit, but nothing serious- still have not started building it :D

Not really :/ Maybe you should start with the wheel, which must be at least 48", because this should be the optimal size for wheel and I made edges 13" wide .

It looks like a pliable sort of wood. It’s probably balsa.

Hi! I used 4mm + 4mm plywood and about 4x90cm x 32cm. Firstly I screwed the first 4 and then glued and screwed another 4 , but my I failed a little bit with making it perfectly roundish so its a bit wobbly. but at least Mystic loves it and even yesterday he run/walked about half an hour on it on 1 am :D ( I think he has been using it every single day since I made it, so I'm glad ;) ) I hope your cat will get her//his own wheel soon as well ;) Don't hesitate to ask questions and don't forget to subscribe, will post more videos soon :)

If you add a second wheel at edge of cat can go lots faster we put a second one on the pole

Its like 4mm+ 4mm thick plywood(which are clued together) and diameter of the wheel was about 126cm and from the video 0:09 you can see how I put those 4+4 plywood pieces on and they were quite easy to bend.

I built one, but after a week or two it started to sag and i had to replace the caster wheel.. I've done this 3 times and it's broken again and i don't know what to do.

Maybe you should try using a bolt and bearings? Planning to make few upgrades as well, but mine still works and he uses it regularly :)
