Hi Kerrod - great drills, I hit the ball terrible over range last week as I’ve had sway to right, so trying to get more weight into my left leg at set up about 60/40, and I was chopping down, shanking and all bad shots you can think of. Did sort it though, it was my head position had got too far left so club was just lifting in backswing - think head position is massively overlooked in golf instruction ! All the best, Ken, London

Head “position” is definitely the “key”. It’s ok for your head to turn a little, using the neck. This just keeps the left shoulder from being stopped by your chin(Jack Nicklaus). However…. Never let the position of the head move very far left or right, by turning your entire upper body. He demonstrated this perfectly, in this video. Basically, you’re trying to put your right shoulder behind you. You’re NOT trying to move both shoulders to the outside of your right foot. That’s too much lateral movement. If done correctly, you’ll feel a stretch in your right obliques, and a crunch in your left obliques, in the backswing. Then, a crunch in your right obliques, and a stretch in your left obliques, through impact. Think of Dustin Johnson, or Jaqueen Naemon through impact. Chest facing the target, with right side bend. That “tilt” is what most people are missing.

This video made me subscribe. The demonstration of the level shoulders swinging around in its own arc nailed it, on what NOT to do. Or, moving your head around in space(don’t do that either). People definitely misunderstand rotation, and tilt. You explained it very, very well.

I swear everytime I go for a lesson at my local pro, I describe the problem thoroughly for 10 mins, followed by some diagnosis swings. 10/10 times its a faulty back swing.
