Same exact experience for me. I'm certainly not doing anything as advanced as this but I only ever did Maya before and I too was blown away by Blender when I started 3 weeks ago. I'm a total fan of most of it now.

love the video - I’ve been contemplating moving to blender as well for projects like these, the software has come so far these past few years. I still can’t believe that maya doesn’t ship with a real-time render engine

All the break of dawn scenes, like when they rest on the hood of the car. did you use matte painting for that? The environments seemed pretty real at rhe same time. Way to go!!

8:08 - The icing in the cake. This totally sold it. Great video! Could you do a specific 8 min video about your "post" process in Nuke, please? It was described in seconds, but I'm sure most of the views would like that extended as well. Awesome lighting, btw.

I started using Blender around the time you made this video, and I have not looked back. And just recently I started using Substance Painter because, you're right; texture painting is where Blender is really lacking. Hopefully they'll improve it, but Substance is SO GOOD.

Just seen this video. Awesome result BTW. I been using Blender for a couple of years now. They really have done an amazing job making it better all around in the last two years. I think Blender is starting to catch professional companies attention. They still need to fix a couple of key things (cloth,caustics,fluid/smoke) But the program does almost everything you would need. Some are really great ,some are just okay. But when it's free you can't beat it. I would say at this point. It's just as good as the big paid programs. And one major film was made using strictly Blender. That was the film "Next Gen".

the beauty about 3D (and especially blender) is that all of the info is on the internet and usually free. plus (I work in recruiting for a game studio so I would know) people in the industry really don't care about where you learned it. a portfolio is much much more important than any formal education. with this in mind I'd suggest you just go download blender and watch the donut series by BlenderGuru here on youtube! maybe join some 3D group on facebook for casual advice while you're at it :)
@JoshToonen3 жыл бұрын
If you’re looking for colleges, you want to look at 3D animation courses, but there are lots of different jobs in VFX that have their own expertise. I’d Google around to find them, and just get started learning on KZbin with Maya or Blender tutorials! I’m completely self taught through YT
