the direction you hook a relay up can make a difference if It has a Fly-back diode to suppress negative voltage spikes when it is disconnected. a relatively small inductor (which is what the solenoid in a relay is) can generate hundreds of negative volts for a brief instant when it is disconnected, the diode limits it to about -0.6V
@bbrennen1312 жыл бұрын
On vehicles you always ground to the frame (basically any metal objects that are connected to the frame). The Negative power is run through the metal mostly to save money but there are other advantages as well. the majority of wires under your dash will run positive power. Be careful when working with these wires, If you let a energized wire touch the metal it will likely just blow a fuse but can result in serious damage.

I feel you misunderstood He clearly states creating loop with wire and a relay to create high frequency you will still need a key without a transponder the 16 likes are also from people that will never interpret how a wire works when energized.

@Dean Lopez No you're 100% right... You would need one chipped key... This could work with a broken chipped key or as a preventative measure to avoid getting locked out in the case you are unable to afford to get your transponder key copied. You won't lose the one good key if it's wireduo and hidden in your steering column, and can easily afford a non chipped key 2 use daily with this method.. This won't work if you've already lost your only key. Womp womp wooomp 💔

Hi! I am a locksmith, and yes, it will work. However, this is alot of trouble for it. All you need to do is glue your working transponder key within 3 inches of your antenna to "bypass".Yes, it will also make it much easier to have your car stolen because all one must do to start it is turn the ignition. Or find the key already in your car hidden under the dash. Also, this only works on "traditional" keys. If you have a prox key or the new chrysler style, it will not work.
@Natures_Symmetry11 жыл бұрын
I'm also a locksmith and that's exactly what I had in mind when I saw this. And there's way to to make it safer: Just glue the transponder chip to the cylinder, instead of the whole key. It will still be easier to steal the car, but it won't make it a whole lot easier for the thief if there's a key hidden there.
@elivios11 жыл бұрын
i did what you said on my 2002 ford windstar when i installed a auto start and it worked perfect. do you know if this concept will work on a 2006 saturn vue? and thanks.
@Natures_Symmetry11 жыл бұрын
Would work with any model, as long as the chip is in the range of the receiver. Not recommended though, it makes the car less secure. Too many videos of picking ignitions here on youtube. Spend some extra $ to make a spare key. Those chips are there for a reason.
@danielheffelbower791911 жыл бұрын
However the vue does not use a transponder. It uses a magnet in the cylinder that rotates past the sensor when you turn the key. Not sure how you would "by pass" that.

The relay is 100% redundant. There's no "maximum reliability" when you're adding in another part that may fail in lieu of a piece of wire that can't fail. All you're doing is extending a loop around the key and having a relay in the middle for no reason. And a cars computer won't have issues with having 2 keys and 2 chips close to each other. They're passive systems to start with, they're only energized during starting. The ring's field extends further than the immediate area, having 2 keys on a ring will both be in the field. As long as 1 of the keys is returning a known code the engine starts. That's it. If not anytime you bought a new car you wouldn't get 2 keys on a ring, you would get one on a ring and one in the trunk so you wouldn't have cars shutting down randomly on the first drive home.

keep in mind that in cold climate it may work when it is warm out and may not work when it is cold the signal from the chip is proportional to temp. you can also take magnet wire from radio shack and wind it around the chip and cylinder and connect as you show tripin the relay with a crank wire 85 and a neg. key sense on 86

Put a $15 combination key lock box inside the car or trunk, with the one good key inside of it. Buy some non-chipped keys for you and anyone else who needs to drive the car, or to keep aside for spares, to get in and out of the car or trunk. Unlock the key lock box and use the original key to start and drive the car, and lock it back up in the box when done.

Lessco Electronics I just think it's really stupid to have another key left in the car. Especially if a car jacker knows what to look for. Then you've pretty much just handed them over the car with little to no trouble. As with the transponder, I just removed the chip from both of my keys.
@romansten99 жыл бұрын
yes! but even easier than that. secure the whole key there! just hide it with tape or a plastic housing. forger all this extra work!

+relik0fages Sounds easier to me! Although you do now have a car as easy to steal as an old ford that only needed a nail file to start. Or you could order a new key? Only saying
@relik0fages9 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Tatler Have you ever tried to start a car with a nail filer? The point of my argument is, why would you leave a second key in the car? It has to be hooked up to the terminal and remote starter. While someone previously said to tape it some where in the car, all you have to do is follow the wire and find the key. Where as removing the chip from the key and taping/gluing it near the ignition is safer. Unless of course you have a car that auto-unlocks if the chip is in range.
@thaddeusmcgrath11 жыл бұрын
I spent 250 bucks on a new ignition switch I had two new keys, I left my key in the ignition to avoid losing it having a different code key not matching my current crank key that would throw off the current crank code on my key ring. As a result, two summers of baking in the Ga. heat, screwed the transponder key down to one. So chose wisely on were you find a permanent place for your key, the transponder cylinder inside the key is full of a type mineral oil, direct sunlight will kill it!
@enoxosr111 жыл бұрын
from what I gathered, yes, he used the original key, since that key is needed to send the wireless signal to the bypass module. If you do not a key at all, this method will not work for you. Only way is to bring it to the dealership or bypass the ECM (complex stuff).

What this device is good for is a transponder key that still has a good chip, but the key itself has broken off. You can try taping the transponder housing near the ignition, but you have more placement options with the coil, therefore you're more likely to find a placement that the ECU (car's computer) will accept.

All I did for my '04 F-150 is put the key right under the ignition switch and it's completely fooled. Regular blanks work now. On this truck, you just pull the rubber grommet around the ignition and set the factory key right there. The original key just has to be close enough to the ignition for it to pick up it's signal. It's as if there's a place for it on my truck. It's true, the other original key won't start it now.
@rodx55716 жыл бұрын
With the Ford PATS system the halo around the key hole that read the key likes to fail. if you only have 1 key this is one way to not lose it, but its easier to just guard the correct key with your life. And if the halo does fail, you are in the same boat as not having a key. my advice is just get a locksmith to cut and program you 2 more keys, cost about 120$ and you have keys to lose. AND you have a sure fire way to diagnose a bad halo, if all 3 keys wont start the car, you can be sure the halo failed. Got 3 ford at the shop right now with halo failures, F150, explorer and a Lincoln town car.

One important detail is to cut off or grind the shank of the key. Some thieves know this bypass trick and know there is a useable key 2 feet away from the ignition lock under the dash
@howdydoody30204b10 жыл бұрын
This is certainly an option, and I appreciate the video, but it turned out to be not what I expected. It seems in the video that the only key and the key cylinder are always connected together with that 3-4 ft. wire. So the key always remains in the car, not to mention the aesthetics of the whole thing with the wires and all. Am I interpreting this correctly? Also, what kind of key are you starting with? If you don't have a key, which is the scenario that you are illustrating, then you first must get a key cut for the car. That means giving the dealer the VIN and proving that you own the car. That will cost $50 to $100, as far as I can tell. It will open the doors and turn the ignition lock, but it will not crank the car as it has not been programmed. So the cost would actually be $10 + $50 (or more). Again, am I interpreting this correctly? Thanks for the video.

If you had a 20 year old classic with early transponder tech that was discontinued you'd understand

I have a 2000 porsche boxster that I am trying to bring back to life. The Immobilizer under the seat got damaged and now the car wont start. I connected an OBDII reader and found that the immobilizer is damaged. I have been looking for a solution but I can't find anything other than taking the car to a dealership and have them replace the unit and reprogram the keys for about $2k. Other options is to purchase a used immobilizer, ecu, keys and transponder and the chances are that it wont work. Any recomendations? Many thanks!

Haven't try this but technically it will work as the coil you created will send signal to the electronic receiver. But why not just zip-tight one key with working transponder INSIDE the steering covering near the ignition cylinder?

He explained that in the video. He said in paraphrase, "god forbid you find your other key and try to use it and the wired up key is too close, the computer will think there's 2 keys, become confused, shut down the car and you'll be no better off".

C Puzz "God forbid you find the other key"...the other key having a transponder on the same freq at the first in it as well. Zip tying an original key inside the steering column cover should work if you are using cut non-transponder keys to start the car.

Love your work matey and unlike a lot of the fools I can understand how this works (and now you don't need the original key as it scrambles the signal and tricks it to think it's the right key) bit my question is???? Can I just run from 86 on the relay to positive on the battery and then 85to the negative of the battery or does it 100% need the ignition wire ?

it has be an ignition switched wire, otherwise the relay coil would always be energized.

THANKS

If you have the original key why not zip tie it in a distance were the sensor will read it. I am down to my last key and went through drilling my ignition switch out with a 1/2 " bit, using a flat head screwdriver and having the key within a few inches for the sensor for the computer to read for starting engine. I know if I can hold the key that distance you could find an close enough spot on your steering column to tie the transponder key under the shroud.
