Here is how I forged a hidden tang chef knife. The blade is W2 tool steel and the handle is stabilized willow. Instagram: @ljpenn_ email: seakranger@gmail.com

Great vid. Nice commentary. Really adds to the mindset you are in while filming. Helps me understand your following steps. Awesome final product.

Nice work! You should do a vid on the low temp salt bath; how to make/use. Keep up the good work!

That's not too bad. As a chef with large hands, I'm not always happy with the handle size of production knives but that handle looks pretty tasty to me. I'd love to hold it and see how it fits.
@LiamJPenn11 ай бұрын
It’s a nice sized handle, definitely better than any production knife I’ve used.

I like using G10 for guards and bolsters, I use it and micarta for all my knife handles. Much prefer synthetics to wood, even using "stabilized" wood it always swells and separates for some reason so I switched almost exclusively to synthetics.
@LiamJPenn11 ай бұрын
Synthetics certainly make things easier. One big reason I started stabilizing my own wood is now I can make sure it’s all well done. I’ve definitely gotten blocks before that were not well done

@@LiamJPenn ya me too, I started doing my own and it didn’t work even making sure it was done properly so I just said forget it.

Liam great looking knife. i just did a chef knife class with Matt parkinson dragons breath forge. i still have a long way to go with my forging but, want to be able 1 day to do brut de forge blades .can you possibly do a tutorial on forging a chefs knife if you have the time thanks Mark i still need help with distal taper and pre forming 👍👍

Might do something more in depth. Biggest tips I have is making each stage as crisp and intentional as you can, and practicing lots. A lot of it is just figuring out what process works for you

Well done dude! I started blacksmithing a few months ago and I’m loving it, it’s a great hobby. How do you like your Nimba anvil? I’m strongly considering getting that same one.
@LiamJPenn10 ай бұрын
I love my nimba titan. it has held up very well for me and the shape is nice. Very loud anvil if you let it ring, i have a couple magnets under the horns and its perfect. Definitely would recommend

What pigment are you using in your epoxy? I've tried black acrylic model paint, but it resulted in the epoxy never getting fully hardened. More like a... really really stiff hot glue gun stick.
@LiamJPenn11 ай бұрын
I use system three black epoxy dye. Just needs the tiniest drop
