How to make a chip and dip bowl!

This is a how to video about how to make one of out most popular pieces, a chip and dip bowl. It can also be used for many other things like veggies and dip, chips and salsa, people have even used it as a planter, putting live plants inside each bowl.

Hi Jon, I'm a beginner potter, actually just a tag a long for my wife's addiction, but over 20 years as a machinist has given me a eye for spinning objects, surface speeds, rate and depth of cut. So it appears I can throw. I am trying to do a similar piece to the one in this video. My questions are How do you know when the pots are at the correct stage to connect them and how do you get them to that stage at the same time? My little bowls always dry much faster than my big ones, also cracks in the bottoms of the bigger ones have been a problem. 6K P.S. Great videos! Informative and entertaining. Really like your colour combos too.

Jon, thanks for the video. I am a retired machinist that enjoys throwing. I assume that you are using an electric kiln for glaze firing? If so can you reveal the type of Blue that is on the inside of the Chip and dip bowl? I am trying to find that color for electric fire kilns. I currently am reduction firing. Thanks for the vids!!

Does it really matter that the bottom is trimmed? When I was throwing production pottery the owners would had a fit if something needed trimmed. Now that I am out on my own I don't really do it but I have had comment on it. Just wanted some opinions on it.

That is just what happens with 2 different glazes, the Black is first and then the green on top!
