I swear it's like watching a magician explaining his tricks. THANK YOU for taking us behind the proverbial curtain to learn about wiring roses with tiny hairpins! The result is, as usual, elegant and beautiful.

Can you make these 1 day in advance. How to store
@FlowerJoos2 жыл бұрын
Yes that is possible. The best advice is to make the afternoon before, with nicely hydrated flowers, then just pop in a box or bag and keep cool - so you could put it in the salad part of the fridge, but just nice and cool is fine 😀🌼

Hi! DO'S & DONTS as far as buttonhole for a funeral plz?
@FlowerJoos2 жыл бұрын
Hello 👋 It’s more unusual to wear a buttonhole at a funeral - they are generally worn at celebrations. However if indicated that it is desired by the family for a particular reason then the usual conventions would fit - a single flower for men, and a more elaborate or multi flower version for ladies. I would be guided by the families wishes - maybe a bright flower colour, or just roses - there would probably be a particular reason and this should be followed. 🌼

If you were to make this the day before a wedding how would you store it? Does it need to go in water? Or perhaps the fridge?
@FlowerJoos2 жыл бұрын
Best made the afternoon before or the morning off the wedding. To store it you want to give it a light mist with some water and store somewhere cool - so a fridge is okay if not cold cold - so maybe in the salad section. But on a couple,d tile floor in a bathroom is ok. Pop in a Tupperware dish as well, or in a plastic bag also helps. As long as the red rose is well hydrated then it should be good! 😀🙋🏼♂️

It’s very simple and beautiful boutonnières. Thanks for sharing it. I have a question, Can we make boutonnières with hydrangeas?
@FlowerJoos5 жыл бұрын
aa flowers you could but the hydrangea tends to wilt very easily, so I would suggest not using it to save any problem.

Hello Flower Joos I wanted to ask where do you get your supplies from? I can't seem to find straight gauge wire only paddle-wire-type. Also, when would you recommend using a flower knife vs a pair of snippers?
@FlowerJoos4 жыл бұрын
BakaBeam hello! We tend to use a couple of places - Van Vliet has a warehouse near us, so has sundries and fresh. And we also use Metz - again for fresh supplies but also sundries - they have a big selection on the webshop. But sometimes it’s hard to find the right product - so you end up with something else 😬 personally I like using a knife - it’s quicker and the cut is better as it isn’t crushed like with scissors. That and a pair of small secateurs and I am happy!
@pippasweeney88686 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same - what gauge wires did you use? TIA
@FlowerJoos6 жыл бұрын
Pippa Sweeney thanks for commenting - I have to confess I don’t know the gauges - after all these years I just go by feel -so for the silver rose wires there are fine and stronger ones, and the others can be long, short, coated etc. So you just get a feel for how best to use each one. I would buy lots of different ones - the two rose wires and then two stronger wires is all you need. Remember you can double a wire, or use a single leg, or double leg to get more strength. I did check the packets for the wires but the labels are gone!

How long would you make this before delivering to the customer?
@FlowerJoos5 жыл бұрын
Caitlin Miller this could be made the afternoon before but no earlier really. The gents flowers are very straightforward so can be made quite quickly. If the weather is very hot the. I would make on the day, say two hours before collection.

I find spray roses better? Normal rose, it’s head is too big.
@FlowerJoos2 жыл бұрын
For a man’s buttonhole one flower is traditional, but a large spray rose would be ideal. Depends on the size of the man 😀 🙋🏼♂️
@waterdragon56802 жыл бұрын
True. Carnations?
@FlowerJoos2 жыл бұрын
@@waterdragon5680 a standard carnations is perfect for a man - but some of the garden style standard ones can be very big, so maybe too big as a buttonhole. 🌼

@FlowerJoos2 жыл бұрын
You can - it’s just personal choice, so touches of a complimentary material is fine. The main thing with a classic gents buttonhole is that it is one main flower. 🌼
