I have never ever worked in my yard and stayed as clean as they did. Usually have to hose off in the yard. Her white shorts looked as clean as when she bought them. All that aside, great job.

Grass and weeds will always find a way to grow up through crushed rocks; regardless of what fabric barrier you use.

There are some really thick landscape fabrics available on the market. But, if in doubt, specially in problem areas, I would put down 2 layers on landscape fabric. Taking into considering drainage and overall height of the pathway, I think it would probably work just fine.

I also think putting down a base layer of stone dust before the pea pebbles would help, no?

I find you need to either keep on top of the occasional weeds or use a decent weedkiller every year or sometimes twice a year.

We're doing this around our home living area and live in a high rainfall area (in winter). The ground has yellow clay under about the first 6-10 inches of brownish soil so it drains poorly and turns to mud in winter. Do you think the addition of a perforated drainage pipe just over the landscape cloth at the base of the pathway (perhaps a deeper trench in the middle of the path) would be a good idea?

Someone from Home Depot recommended weed barrier, 1/2 inch rocks, limestone screening and then the decorative rocks. I have done this in an area where there is water build up when it rains Do I even need the limestone screening? I am already done😕

Justine, you will get weeds as dirt blows in naturally, falls between the rocks and settles on top of the landscape fabric. The weed seed then blows in, or gets dropped in by birds/bird poo over time. I would consider it optional, many of the pro shops around me do not use it.

It's a lot cheaper to order from a local mulch supplier..they sell soil, muches, rocks and shells. They will ship it and dump it where you want it and you simply spread it. Lowes is much more expensive. It is a myth that landscape cloth will keep weeds off. Weeds grow regardless..leaves will accumulate and die and become "soil" for weeds. You are still going to kill weeds with landscape cloth.

@@jewelofwisdom8279 I depends give you an example I have interlock in my backyard no grass what's so ever but I have a few shrubs and trees, the trees and shrubs are in level ground with my interlock but what I did was I dug about 4 inches below ground around the trees shrubs in a square shape but plastic edging all around so the interock does move or fall in....then I put around the shrubs trees fabric paper then about 1 inch pea gravel on top....then gravel which is bigger....3 inches...then river rock...now no weeds will grown from underground or from on top....because you have to remember weed grows when it makes contact with any kind of dirt...since I have no dirt around my shrubs or trees no weeds can grown...but I also put 2 plastic circular borders around the tree than 3 inches of mulch.....its kinda hard to explain without showing you pics....if you have grass around your tree and want to put stones river rocks or decorative rocks only do that that if you can separate your garden or trees from the grass with a small retaining wall either around the tree or garden itself....I have done rock gardens already at my home its practically maintenance fee no weeds 2 years now....if you send me pics of your project I can explain better your case....I can even show u pics of my stuff....I have b4 and after pics....my email is jackandrade_ca@hotmail.com
