Great job! If you need to run a finished piece through your planer again, just put it on a sled and run it through. That way, the finished side won't be sliding over the surface

Great idea! Yeah, that would've been the best bet, but I was in a bit of a pinch for time with this one. When i have a chance, I definitely need to make one for future use.

great work amazing it shows that you placed your heart and soul into your work I myself do some woodworking and you mentioned about hanging it on the wall. I made a flag that went into a bar due to the owner passing away. I placed 4x4x.75 blocks on the back to have it stand away from the wall also the block had the keyhole slots cut into them. just a future idea.
@maverickdesignswoodworking
@maverickdesignswoodworking Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Ralph. Actually, my normal flags have 4 supports on the back that are 1.5x18x.75, which also holds them away from the wall by that .75, and the 2 outermost supports have keyholes to hang it. In this case there were no supports and because the flag already had multiple layers I didn't want to make it even thicker by adding any, which is why I just added the keyholes directly to the back layer.

Great looking flag. What I would have done with the plywood, I would have used the grinder or sander to make gouges to the plywood fand make it look like the rest of the flag than added the Army Emblem
@maverickdesignswoodworking
@maverickdesignswoodworking Жыл бұрын
Good idea, I hadn't thought of trying that. I think seeing the plys in the gouges might have triggered my OCD though, Lol.

@@maverickdesignswoodworking you eould know better than me, but with the piece that you have left maybe try it for tge next one. No harm no foul it's a scrap already so if it works you know for next time, if not than its just trash and you didn't lose anything

For your keyholes would it work if you use the keyhole bit in a plunge router? Your flag looks amazing
@maverickdesignswoodworking
@maverickdesignswoodworking 3 ай бұрын
You can do that with a template. I think Rockler makes one, but I wouldn't trust my ability (or lack thereof) to freehand it.

Beautiful flag. Have you tried putting in the keyhole slots using your CNC? That's how I do it.

Why don't you use your CNC to cut your keyholes?
@maverickdesignswoodworking
@maverickdesignswoodworking 6 ай бұрын
A couple of reasons. The flag was too big, and I was so new to CNC at that time I didn't know how to do that with the software.

You mentioned that it was going to cost an extra 50 dollars with the error you made. How much do you normally sell the distressed flaf for
@maverickdesignswoodworking
@maverickdesignswoodworking 2 ай бұрын
I sold that one for 300 including shipping, but shipping was a good 70. A flag like that would be 300 plus shipping now.

Your mistake may have been a blessing in disguise. You shouldn't glue solid wood to a plywood substrate because of the expansion and contraction of the solid wood. That's a recipe for disaster. Although, it may not have failed immediately, it would eventually fail. The only exception would be if your solid wood panel was about 1/4" thick or thinner.
@maverickdesignswoodworking
@maverickdesignswoodworking 2 ай бұрын
I agree, but in this case the wood stripes are only 1.5 inches wide, kept indoors in a dry climate, and fully sealed. Even if they did move, it wouldn't be much. I was just following what many other flag makers do for these types of flags. This was my first multi layered flag though, and all others I've done since have been like this, so they should be good. I haven't had anyone complain yet. I definitely have more confidence in them like this, without the ply.
