Great idea! I always place Saran Wrap on my slab then use the cookie cutter…. Edges come out nicely rounded 🎄

Great tip, thanks 😊 It gives much softer edges and less tidying needed!

Would like to know what kind of clay you used, what kind of glaze and what was it fired at. Tutorial was well done and very informative. Thank you

Thanks 😊 I used Potterycrafts raku modelling clay which is a lightly grogged buff coloured clay with a wide firing range. I use commercial brush on glazes from companies like amaco, mayco, spectrum, terracolor and suppliers own brands. I think for that tree I used amaco seaweed on the tree and terracolor holunder elder on the star and points of the branches. I fire to stoneware temperature usually between 1210-1220C.

I saw on another channel, that she used corn starch to coat her molds. Seems like this might work for your stars as well.

It does ☺️ I've since started using corn starch too 😄

Love this tree! How many star shaped cookie cutters did you use to make this tree? I would love to make one.

I have a set of 5 and generally use 3 or 4 of them 😊

Yes it will 😊

What is slip?
@PaulaArmstrongCeramics8 ай бұрын
Slip is just clay mixed with water to a creamy consistency that can be used a little like glue when making in clay ☺️

Do you have a pic of the finished tree?

What are the coils on the table behind the tree for? Are you making one out of coils too?
@PaulaArmstrongCeramics Жыл бұрын
Yes, I did make a coil tree too. You can find as part of my 2 ways to make Christmas trees video workshop on craft courses www.craftcourses.com/courses/two-ways-to-make-ceramic-christmas-tree-ornaments-with-paula-armstrong ☺️

Thanks so much for your reply. I’m thinking about doing this with my students in grade one and two.

@@sherrylesser it's a great one for that 😊 I've done them with Brownies and am told that they come out every Christmas 😃

I’m not sure what happened that it posted the same comment multiple times but I deleted the copies. Thanks so much for the post. We Created our trees and are waiting to fire them in the kiln. I decided to make them with coils because I couldn’t find enough cookie cutters for that many students. Thanks so much for the coil idea.

Love your tree! Enjoy your tutorials! Very good and clear directions but your music is to loud and then your talking is to low.

Thanks! Glad you like them. I'll try to balance the sound better when I edit. Thanks for the feedback.

Fun project, but it looked very off balance.

I like to build with very wet clay which can sometimes mean it looks a bit unstable. You can let it dry a little before assembling/stacking the stars if you prefer 😊
