Do you feel confident in making your own fanny pack?
@SewLazjhLu6 жыл бұрын
WHITNEY LU. I loved this! It was fairly simple to follow. I realized at the end my buckles were really tiny so I will have to purchase bigger ones. Besides that it turned out really well. I'll sample it again for clarity before doing it on my expensive fabric lol. Thank you so much for the helpful tutorial

I saw a lot of people install the zipper by facing the right side of the zipper towards the right side of the fabric, stitching them together, and then folding the zipper + edge over and top stitching. Is there any particular reason why you fold and pin it in place, and directly top stitch it?

What sewing machine do you recommend for beginners ?
@WhitneyLu6 жыл бұрын
If your going a more affordable route I would get a Brother machine (computerized). They’re beginner friendly, and the computerized versions give you more options for creativity. I’ve used Brother for years and have no complaints! If your willing to invest in a machine, the BEST home machine would be a Juki. It’s like the Ferrari of sewing machines but they’re home sewing machines are easy to use and you’ll love it.

What paper are you using
@iamjadaci6 жыл бұрын
And what material are you using leather?
@WhitneyLu6 жыл бұрын
I’m using marine vinyl. The white paper I’m using I buy a roll of bulletin board paper from hobby lobby for like $9.00 it has about 4-6 yards of paper on it. They also have a bunch of colors. I also get paper from Home Depot, I buy the brown paper (it’s a ton of yards on the roll for $7.00)

How do you print out your patterns? I have brought this one and the body suit and haven't been able to print out either.
@WhitneyLu6 жыл бұрын
Hey, you’ll have to put your printer on “Poster” mode so that the patterns can print out on multiple pieces of paper. If you have a Mac you’ll have to download the adobe acrobat software (it’s free) then use the Poster mode option on that platform. Let me know if you come across any issues!

You did a great job with the tutorial. Nice work, definitely will subscribe to your channel. As a suggestion clipping/cutting your seam allowances will help it to lay flat.
@WhitneyLu6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Do you mean Clipping the seams will help with lowering the thickness?! Somethings in school they never covered so purse/bag making is all self taught, advice is totally helpful!
@iLoveLeatherNYC6 жыл бұрын
Hi. Some KZbinrs don't like "how to make things better" comments on their videos. I don't mind comments on my channel as long as they are constructive, so glad you're open to the feedback. I want you to win so know that first and foremost. And yes there is a lot they don't teach in school. lol. I learned from asking others. Yes. Cutting/clipping the seams helps as it reduces the amount of bulk as it frees up space. Ironing seams flat works well but is tough with vinyl, if the iron is too hot it melts. "Notching" also helps with corners. If you don't know the term it basically means cutting small triangles where ever there is a corner or round shape. Careful tho, don't cut your stitching. For me to get the "flat-est" seams in leather I glue down, then hammer. Not sure if this will work on vinyl but you might test it on a scrap + E6000. Adding the piping was a super smart move! And I'm glad you made a yellow version so you can see how that one detail changed the whole game, all these little details matter. If you ever need help or have questions you can email me directly I'm around. iloveleathernyc@gmail.com Keep up the good work sis.
@WhitneyLu6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I noticed some people don’t like advice/critiques. Im all for receiving help! And whatever I learn from someone else will get passed on to the next person. I’m going to try clipping and the gluing down the seams! I’ve burned a Fanny pack or two from ironing lol Also I love your channel! So informative and makes me want to make a bag! Definitely going to email you when I get into a future problem (because I will get into one) lol Thank you!
@iLoveLeatherNYC6 жыл бұрын
Nice of you to say, your a sweetheart. And YEASSSSS!! get inspired to work with leather! You can talk to me anytime about 'future' problems. lol.

@Hadassador6 жыл бұрын
The piping definitely gave it a pro look! How did you emboss the yellow? And your camera above view is in point!
@WhitneyLu6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! For the emboss effect I used the iron on letters I showed in the tutorial. Placed them where I wanted on the front piece of the fanny pack and then ironed the wrong side of the vinyl. The iron "melts" the fabric around the letters. Afterwards you can just peel off the letters and you'll have a embossed effect.
@jashawna936 жыл бұрын
Hi does the pre-made pattern already include the seam allowance? And also with the pattern I purchased from you, I realized the zipper was longer when I placed it on my front piece and it’s a 14 inch zipper why is that?
@WhitneyLu6 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes the pattern has seam allowance already added for you. If possible could you email me at heywhitneylu@yahoo.com pictures of the zipper/pattern problem. I checked the pre made pattern and the zipper should be fitting in that space perfectly. But I want to see what's going on from your perspective so I can help/fix the issue.

Whitney Lu ok will do

Maybe the way I printed it?

Possibly, you'll have to put your printer on POSTER mode so it'll print out on multiple pages. If you have a Mac you'll need to download Adobe acrobat then use the "POSTER" mode on there.
