How to Make a DIY Metal Laser Bed | Ortur LM2

We picked up some expanded metal for a few projects and one of them was to make a new laser bed for the Ortur LM2. Cut out the right size with a grinder, added some half inch MDF for feet and got it all setup for the next burn.

Can I use peg board for co2 laser bed? But the issue it has more area and less holes! So laser will touch the bed more often! Will that be an issue?

It would work. Wouldn’t breath as well and might also burn. If you aren’t trying to do a lot of cuts it won’t matter. But I have found that more opened help with airflow for cutting.

Won’t burn then. I had one laser come with a solid sheet and it leaves nasty residue but works fine.

Tip... dont wear flanel when grinding, its very flammable... guess how i know!?!

Great video and use of material. But I would sugguest that next time cutting something like that you would find it easier to use end of a table or work bench to cut with grinder (less kick back) I know this from experience. Yep I have done the same as you did.

What type of metal do you use for the bottom under the expanded metal?

They aren’t super strong. And it was just cheap ones we found on Amazon.

Neodymium Magnets are the strong magnets, not like refrigerator magnets. Lots of places sell them.
