How to make a film, with no money (no budget filmmaking) On the Isle of Wight. We had no money, no experience and no idea what we were getting ourselves into. This video is a look back at a feature film that myself and a couple of friends made.
This video was what we submitted for the Isle of Wight film festival back in 2014, it’s a sort of behind the scenes retrospective look back at the film we were making and the path we took to get there.

I know this feeling all too well. Me and some friends set about making a film that was insanely ambitious for the time, and it ended up taking seventeen years to finally put out part one, which promptly went nowhere. With about 95% of part two completed, I at last burned out, realizing there was very little point in finishing something begun in 1992, for crying out loud. I wrote and shot a very low-budget thriller, which was finished about a month ago. Not sure what to do with it, but at least it's a potentially viable commodity, and everything we'd done previously amounted to some great practical experience.

Really lovely to see all this and I can relate too. Back in the 1990's (before I left the Island) me and a friend made a few sci-fi short films, sometimes with the help of a few other friends, in and around many of the locations that you used; Undercliff Drive and the beach next to it, Shide Chalk Pit, the Quarry on the Downs behind it, Stag Lane cement works etc. We did everything ourselves from terrible acting, all the camera work and editing, building the production equipment, props, models and all the effects work. All of it was done for real as it was the pre-digital era and we could get away with a lot too - so many loud bangs went off, sending mushroom clouds over the horizon for all to see. I still have that creative itch to make something again - one day I will. I hope that you manage to release your film, the effort that you all put into it would be a sheer waste if you didn't.

This looks interesting!! It's great to see what you've been working on for the last few years! Are some of the locations seen in your abandoned videos used? You have to release it though.. Even if it is for a small audience we have to see it. What you have showcased in this video really shows your hard work and effort; it would be a shame to see years of all that go to waste... Yes, we used quite a few locations across the lsland, however, most of the sites I used in this film I haven't re-filmed for "Abandoned Isle of Wight" so could do with a revisit at some point.... Thank you for the positivity, I really do appreciate it we'll have to see about the film but fingers crossed it may get finished... One day 😹

So much of what you did reminds we of a short film I made with a friend of mine a few years ago. We used action men and employed stop frame animation in some sections. We had no experience but some how it came together. I hope you can get this film finished.

Thanks, William, its great fun just getting together with some mates and trying to figure things out and honestly I think that we learned more trying and failing that we ever would going to uni to learn to film...
