I see several styles/ways of making fitted sheets here on KZbin. Pick one that is best for your needs. I like to be sure the measurements are spot on to make them look tight and well made with French seams and elastic for every corner of the bed. But my mom was a genius she used an old fitted sheet (that was her favourite sheet)...undid one corner of the old fitted sheet and that is what she used as a pattern for the new sheet. She knew it would fit with no problem. That is my personal favourite way to make a fitted sheet.

It likely won’t be tall enough. It’ll probably be wide enough. You might be able to take out the double hem at the top of the sheet and get a few more inches to make it work. It depends on the sheets. You can lay it on the mattress and if it makes it to the bottom of the mattress on all four sides go for it.

Only if it's a California king sheet ...otherwise king and queen are the same length. both are 80" long typically so it likely wont be long enough. but it's worth trying because sometimes the flat sheets may be longer. so lay it down on the bed to see if it fits lengthwise.

Hi Mimzy, Fantastic video. Just what I was looking for. As simple as it gets. About to attempt this having never even touched a sewing machine (borrowing my mum’s) to try to make some fitted sheets for odd shaped mattresses in my caravan. They are smaller than the average mattress. One question. In the video, when you are sewing on the elastic, for the first half it looks like you lap the sheet over the elastic but then after you take the pin out you don’t seem to do the lapping. So now I’m not sure whether to lap or not. Have a feeling I should for neatness. Would you mind telling what is the best option. Lap the whole of the elastic or not. I’ll be watching your video about 1000 times before I take the plunge. Haha 😂
@MimzyandCompany2 жыл бұрын
yes, you're 100% correct. It looks like I started with the sheet folded over the elastic and ended with it not folded over or lapped. I think it just had a crease at first that made the fabric fold over and I just went with it. I'd say that your fabric will gather better if you do NOT lap the fabric over. because the more bulk you have sewn to the elastic the less it will gather up. does that make sense? When i've tried to put elastic on heavy weight fabric it doesn't gather very well, but thin fabric gathers really well with elastic. But that's just my opinion...sheeting is pretty thin so it probably wont make too much difference if you lap it. anyway...try it and see. 🙂
@anthony-laurenproctor87982 жыл бұрын
@@MimzyandCompany brilliant. Thanks for that. Makes sense. Less resistance on the elastic if it isn’t lapped over especially on a seamed edge. I’ll go with that. Seems to make sense and would probably be easier to do. Thanks again for the video. Is really great
