This is exactly what I needed!!! Thank you!! I was so frustrated because the first 3 videos I clicked on was all the math and numbers and I’m more of a visual learner. Just using the mattress to measure the sheet was so helpful and exactly what I needed. I appreciated this video the absolute most! Thank you!

Leave more fabric around the whole thing so that the sheet fits under the mattress and doesn't show, it will fit better and shouldn't just pop off easily.

If anyone is as lazy as me I just figured out you can take four hair bands and tie the 4 counters of the sheets in ponytails - under each corner of the bed. Yessss it works and took me 30 seconds

This method clearly works and makes sense, and the video is clearly explained. I have seen a more straight forward video that does not involve pinning a sheet on a bed, instead folding the sheet into quarters, measuring in from the corners, etc. Simpler, neater, more mathematical. I'm not complaining! I'm just sharing that there's a simpler way available. Thank you for your video, I'm really grateful that people take time to try things and share their success for us to learn from.

I see several styles/ways of making fitted sheets here on KZbin. Pick one that is best for your needs. I like to be sure the measurements are spot on to make them look tight and well made with French seams and elastic for every corner of the bed. But my mom was a genius she used an old fitted sheet (that was her favourite sheet)...undid one corner of the old fitted sheet and that is what she used as a pattern for the new sheet. She knew it would fit with no problem. That is my personal favourite way to make a fitted sheet.

Interesting you don’t use your flat sheets because your have doona covers which you wash. I use a flat sheet as well as a doona cover because a doona cover takes more time to wash and iron. I can change the sheet weekly and the doona cover monthly as it doesn’t have contact with my body.

It likely won’t be tall enough. It’ll probably be wide enough. You might be able to take out the double hem at the top of the sheet and get a few more inches to make it work. It depends on the sheets. You can lay it on the mattress and if it makes it to the bottom of the mattress on all four sides go for it.

Only if it's a California king sheet ...otherwise king and queen are the same length. both are 80" long typically so it likely wont be long enough. but it's worth trying because sometimes the flat sheets may be longer. so lay it down on the bed to see if it fits lengthwise.

Hi Mimzy, Fantastic video. Just what I was looking for. As simple as it gets. About to attempt this having never even touched a sewing machine (borrowing my mum’s) to try to make some fitted sheets for odd shaped mattresses in my caravan. They are smaller than the average mattress. One question. In the video, when you are sewing on the elastic, for the first half it looks like you lap the sheet over the elastic but then after you take the pin out you don’t seem to do the lapping. So now I’m not sure whether to lap or not. Have a feeling I should for neatness. Would you mind telling what is the best option. Lap the whole of the elastic or not. I’ll be watching your video about 1000 times before I take the plunge. Haha 😂
@MimzyandCompany
@MimzyandCompany 2 жыл бұрын
yes, you're 100% correct. It looks like I started with the sheet folded over the elastic and ended with it not folded over or lapped. I think it just had a crease at first that made the fabric fold over and I just went with it. I'd say that your fabric will gather better if you do NOT lap the fabric over. because the more bulk you have sewn to the elastic the less it will gather up. does that make sense? When i've tried to put elastic on heavy weight fabric it doesn't gather very well, but thin fabric gathers really well with elastic. But that's just my opinion...sheeting is pretty thin so it probably wont make too much difference if you lap it. anyway...try it and see. 🙂

@@MimzyandCompany brilliant. Thanks for that. Makes sense. Less resistance on the elastic if it isn’t lapped over especially on a seamed edge. I’ll go with that. Seems to make sense and would probably be easier to do. Thanks again for the video. Is really great

I used a twin size sheet. It just fit and won't go under because I have a 13" high mattress, but I didn't have a bigger sheet. I only had the corners to cut and since no one else will ever see it, I don't really care if it's not pretty, lol. I also didn't sew on any elastic as I'll be using the corner holder you can purchase online or even at dollar stores.

Mattresses are too thick now! Way deeper than most fitted sheets!

It’s never going to stay in place if somebody’s going to sit or lying on that mattress

Mine does. And if it doesn’t you could add a strap of elastic diagonally across the corners to hold it in place.

Your corners are much too complicated and sloppy. If the mattreiis 18"deep, just cut out an 18" square from the corner and stich the sides together. Voila. A tidy, neat corner.

what? who the hell just sweats their ass off with no flat sheet you are telling me you wash duvet cover and then wrestle the comforter back into the cover every week? yeah right and your bedding is dirty.....you use a flat sheet in conjunction with the duvet so you can wash the blessed thing and keep your bedding CLEAN someone who doesn't use a flat sheet to actually make the bed is just lazy

@@damianwildfong7278 and in the time it took you to insult the maker you could have used the California Roll method (search it on KZbin) to insert your comforter into it's freshly laundered cover. 😀 There are lots of us who do sleep in beds made as this creator describes; nearly all of Europe, to start.

@@RedTileServices um no use a flat sheet my above description is why a flat sheet exists this is not something i made up these people usually don't wash their comforter point blank anyone who says they do is silly

@@damianwildfong7278 I wash my comforter, maybe two or three times a season. I wash it's cover weekly. Take it off, wash it, put it back on. Fresh and clean, just as fresh and clean as your flat sheet. Why is this such a difficult concept for you?
