I just recently discovered your channel, and I am so glad I did! I have several flat sheets in my linen closet that are just taking up space, because their fitted sheet companions have rips in them. Thank you so much for this brilliant idea for the use of flat sheets. And the fact that this video was originally posted on my birthday makes my heart happy!! I am looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks again!!

I never liked the bother and fuss of duvet covers, but during the pandemic I realized they are a cleaner way to accommodate friends or guests who can sleep under a freshly laundered duvet cover rather than your old comforter! Thank you for making this project look doable. I can't wait to try it out.

Thank you SO much for this informative video. My Granddaughter asked me to make a duvet cover from flat sheets. I said OK not having a clue as to what I was going to do. I have a background in clothing construction and quilt construction, but this was new to me. I followed your instructions to the letter and was still apprehensive as she was only giving me information as to the size of the comforter that she obtained online. I finished the cover and gave it to her. No response for a couple of days and then a relief (to me) when her text came telling me it fit perfectly.

I like your method. A year late to the tutorial. I did see on a few other videos for calculating a large bed, like our king size to make seams at edged of bed to join material. Then its less obvious. So measure width of top of bed and add seam allowance to join 2 side strips. I was looking for this type of simple one color bedspread we had for our queen bed that looked like 2 sheets sewn together with a lot of stitching. It doesnt seem to exist except in bad copies made overseas with bad reviews. So thought of making duvet cover and getting a light weight duvet instead.

I just stumbled upon this video. Since 2008 I've been living in the USA but being from the Netherlands I was used to Duvet covers. I used to make my own as well despite the wide range of choice of covers sold in Europe. However my problem with finding fabric here is finding the wide enough fabric. I could get fabric as wide as 125 cm (and then double it to get the right measurement). I've looked everywhere but cannot find simple cotton yarn in this size. Is it me or is it not sold in the US? The use of sheets is a really good compromise but I would like to choose my own fabric still. Great video!

Yes, that is what you would do to get the pieces wide enough (sewing two strips together.)

Thanks for this great tutorial. I’m going to make a king size duvet cover for my daughter in law. I have 2 flat sheets. Do I use the same formula? I need the measurements of the duvet? Or can I just count on the flat sheets and duvet being standard sizes? I really don’t want to have my dil have to measure the duvet. But if I have to I will. Thanks for your help. 😊

Hi. I've been working really hard on this, but have problems when sewing such large swaths of fabric. Even with sheets the same size, they always come out "shifted" and uneven after sewing. I haven't been able to find help with this. Can you help? My space is very limited, but I am careful to raise my nonworking fabric so that it doesn't get pulled with the machine. Thx
@JanHowell9 ай бұрын
You can try pinning one side and instead of sewing from corner to corner, start in the midd and sew out to the corners. I hope that makes sense. It is also helpful to pin the fabric together and as you sew, if you can tell the under/top side is ending up short, hold that fabric a little tighter to ease the other in. That's why I don't really enjoy sewing big pieces together as well. I hope that was helpful.

@@susanmooring457 It's the duvet cover that has ties in the corners where you wrap and tie around the duvet or comforter. I hope that makes sense. The duvet is basically a comforter. It may have feathers or bat for the filling.
