i wasn't sure what you were even trying to DO at first. it only came clear at the end really. helluva lotta work, man. dang. i'm exhausted just contemplating it (tho i've been run ragged on landscaping recently.). i think "rainwater catchment / pond / garden that can be watered from pond" would sum it up.

Thankyou. Just what I needed. Except. Already a pool full of goldfish(that eats everything) and no circulation 5 yrs already. No feeding except a yellow finch family that keeps a constant supply of privit leaves and odd grasses coming off disassembling nests for nest clearing right over the pool/pond. Im going to try your method - hanging the roots in the water in containers in crates with holes to clean the water and feed the fish. Great idea. Thanks
@nickgraalman37952 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and interest in the idea! Good luck with your version. One tip I've learnt since though is to stick to bottles designed for pressure (soft drink bottles etc) as the milk cartons are failing over time. I'll have an update video available soon covering this issue. Keep me updated on how you go :)

I like the idea, but seeing as you are pumping aerated water to the filtering plants, you could have skipped the floating part and parked the filter around the pool/pond. That would have given you more pool/pond to enjoy.
@SuburbanHomesteadExperiments Жыл бұрын
Hi Ronyon, cheers for the comment. The floating part is so I can use it as a "rainwater tank" too. So the plants are always in the water, irrespective of how much i drain for use elsewhere. Does that make sense?
@slaplapdog Жыл бұрын
@@SuburbanHomesteadExperiments I see what your saying. The water wicks up from the pond, to be used by the plants, no matter what.
@SuburbanHomesteadExperiments Жыл бұрын
@@slaplapdog Yep, exactly. Still a re-design might be happening, so keep the ideas coming 💡💡💡! Cheers dude.

this is an incredible idea, thank you for the inspiration! Did you secure the floating beds at all, or are they simply free floating? I'm looking to do something similar on a much smaller scale
@SuburbanHomesteadExperiments8 ай бұрын
Oh cheers! The floating bed is only secured to itself. It's a tight fit and just gently bumps up against the walls. Good luck with your smaller scale version. Don't use milk cartons though. Use soft drink bottles or any bottle that is designed for pressure. Milk cartons leaked over time. I hope this helps 😀

Will there be any concern about the plastic leaching when exposed to the sun?
@SuburbanHomesteadExperiments Жыл бұрын
Hi Jessica, thanks for the question. The plastic isn't exposed to any sun directly (the rocks keep them in permanent shade). This should greatly enhanced the longevity of the bottles. We'll see i guess!
@DmSujaEntrepren5 ай бұрын
so like, what if you have a saltwater pool? I guess you won't use the pool water. And maybe you limit it just winter months
@SuburbanHomesteadExperiments4 ай бұрын
Not sure I follow your question? For a salt water pool, you may need to empty and start again...not sure though.
@DmSujaEntrepren4 ай бұрын
@@SuburbanHomesteadExperiments You're right, will need to empty the salt water pool. Then refill it. The pool is out of use for like 3 quarters of the year. Growing food on milk cartons is genius use of space. Your an inspiration. Thanks for sharing!
