How to make a flower arrangement using a wire frame block mechanic
Ingredients - calla, red standard roses, wax flower, fake blooms, pampas grass, trick dianthus, Bergenia leaves, hosta, eucalyptus, asparagus and lambs ears
This wire base makes the perfect frame to create a floral design as it holds the flowers really well, and flowers are always happier direct into water.
The regularity of the frame makes it really easy to insert the flowers - more so than just scrunched up chicken wire - and the plastic coated wire will not cut or damage the stems.
In this video we use the frame in a deep container - so there is a good source of water for all the flowers!

Very stunning, John. At first, seeing the silk mums they seemed kind of "eh" - but your idea to have them pull out the colors of the pampas grass as well as the purples of the wax flower and calla lilies (I've never seen them in purple!) was pure genius. And I wouldn't have thought to put red roses with them - I love how you expand my mind! The diversity of the greens is so exciting, and when you added the asparagus fern at the end I caught my breath - perfect touch!

You've done it, John! It's great to see the non-foam, wire brick work out so well! Again, ou've got my attention with a fab container. For some reason I think that pampas grass and the container complement one another very well! Thanks for the terrific design and for sharing your ingenuity with us. You mentioned wiring flowers, and I was taken back to when I got in the business years ago. We wired everything! All you've mentioned, plus roses and carnations! That's something I'm happy to say isn't done so much any longer, although the technique comes in handy on occasion!

I remember wiring the top carnation or two in funeral sprays - you know, the ones out each end that are at risk of being snapped 😀 it’s funny, but a lot of these techniques are handy to have up your sleeve, so still relevant 🌼 Glad you liked the design - have a great week!

Beautiful arrangement. I have a wedding this month where they want the head table centerpiece to be artificial flowers so they can keep it. Then the guest tables would be real flowers. Colors medium blue and purple. Should be a challenge. Nice to know they do get mixed in arrangements.

It looks like the new mechanic works well! I really like the dianthus(sp?). I have seen them before but never knew the name. I think they made a lovely additional texture and colour. This arrangement screams autumn. The rustic modern container is a nice contrast to all the textures and muted colors. I copied the wire brick idea for some home arrangements. It worked beautifully and makes disassembling so much easier than messy crumbling foam. I also love that it's reusable.

I absolutely love this John! I agree with you that it’s a kind of “old fashioned “ way of arranging flowers but I find I have gone full circle with arranging and this is now my favourite type of arrangement. I find non foam mechanics produce a more natural arrangement with gentle curves. Floral foam made more formal and stylised arrangements possible, which is lovely but I’m really appreciating this less structured look now. I must make one of the wire bricks and give it a try. Thank you 😊 I think you are right, I does soften a design having that slight movement in the mechanic - and it works really well. I found scrunched up wire very good - but the regularity of the mesh here gives a very consistent frame to work with which is better. It is worth making a brick or cube o have a go. 😀🌼
