Joshua Bending spring steel wire has always been a problem for me especially if the gage is increased to accommodate for ruff landing and you have a free wheeler prop , the shaft takes a bend and never tracts right again so frustrating, have you experienced that ?and what did you do to correct it. Thanks Herb in Florida

Nice carving plane in your hand. Anything special or just we’ll sharpened?
@joshuawfinn Жыл бұрын
It's just a generic folding knife. Not even particularly well sharpened.

@@joshuawfinn actually I found your vid on the Bruce Kimble razor plane and just received one!

To aid in soldering ( should you decide to revisit that technique) use lots of flux. flood the wire wrap with it. With that much metal mass you will need to take your time too on pre-heat to let whole wrap get hot enough for the solder to flow properly. And use lots of flux.

Thank you. Soldering spring steel is definitely much different from soldering electrical components.

Excellent video! I like your little spring retaining clip. What kind of pliers do you use to bend prop shafts of heavier wire or lighter? Thank you for your information.
@joshuawfinn3 жыл бұрын
I'm not the person to ask about pliers. I sometimes use large channel locks, but a vise and wire bending jig would be a better idea.

There’s an awful lot to getting the pitch variance along the blade. You’ve got more skill than me. That’s a beautiful prop. BTW. You should never cut towards your other hand with the knife. It will bite you one day.

Joshua can Dow 111 be used instead of Dow 33 or 55 for lubricant on the rubber motors for Sunday flying with the kids?
@joshuawfinn4 жыл бұрын
Yes it can. It's a bit thicker than optimum, but it works great for sport flying and even competition.

Thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate it. 👍🏻 your videos have been inspiring and helpful.

I really wish I could get a microphone that does what it says it does. Two of my friends donated mics. One was defective out of the box, the other wouldn't talk to my camera. Since I don't have a sound room to ban the kids from, I can't do single cut recordings, so recording audio separately is effectively impossible.

@@joshuawfinn use your cell phone. It doesn't even have to be great audio, it's just, your content is excellent but you're a soft-spoken person and it's just really hard to hear you. I'm not being critical or anything, but especially when you're outside and you're ten feet away from the camera, I can't hear you. And then your end piece comes through loud and clear! I know you have a family to take care of everything and I'd help you out if I could but I haven't worked all year. All I have to do is sit here and watch videos. And build some models in between. Maybe I'm just old and cranky I don't know.
