Best part about mom’s pies was her left over pie crust. She would barely brush with butter and coat with cinnamon and sugar and bake them it kept us from breaking off pie edges to taste.

My mom spread butter, cinnamon and sugar on it and rolled it up and sliced it like tiny little cinnamon rolls. I still do it to this day. We call it crud!

It's been more than 20 years since I have had my Mom's apple pie recipe but I remember she liked to use Macintosh apples, she used the mandoline to do super thin slices of apple & layered them SO HIGH that there were no air spaces between the bottom and the top crust. I don't remember how she mixed the cinnamon sugar mix but when she made pie - EVERYBODY raved at how good it was. She perfected the perfect pie pastry and I have never found anyone that could hold a candle to her pie crust. I miss her but this video makes me want to try making one! Heather xo

Great video! There’s NOTHING like a homemade crust; yum! And, yes, that pastry cutter is a great, easy gadget, and goes right in the dishwasher. ( many of us use our broken rolling pins). And you’re so right about how the crust’s appearance doesn’t have to be perfect! Guests ( if you have any this year 🙁) will go crazy over that crust! Always be sure to brown the top nicely, as a pale crust doesn’t bring out the delicious the flavor. I usually protect the edges with foil to prevent over browning the edges. Thanks for taking us away from this lonely, isolating, sad pandemic for a few minutes; so uplifting!

Perfection every single time! I don’t care for “perfect cookie cutter pies” they are never as good. Your pie is perfect! Crust is perfect, and we always brush with cream and sugar on the tops as well. I also love heaping pies! “I wish it had less filling” Said NO ONE EVER!! 😉😂 Homemade pies are the BEST! When my MamMam (grandma) would eat her slice of pie she always put it in a bowl and poured cream over the pie. You brought back memories this morning. ♥️🥧 Watching your videos is like talking with one of my sisters or my momma. Take care and God Bless and keep you all safe and sound.

Dearest Jennifer, is your health okay? I've been so worried about your sweet Bonnie the last couple of months because something in life has been making her sad and weepy... and your other girls too even though they don't talk about it... but after watching her video today, she said something about recommending the protein powder to you and Chad, and it got my heart and mind racing because of my needing to consume extra protein a few years ago during a health crisis. I admire and adore you so much and don't mean to pry into your personal life or be disrespectful. I have just come to love and look forward to watching you and your whole family's videos during the pandemic... and if you're in need of some extra prayers we'd love to help!!! 😥🙏❤

My mum was ill growing up so my brother and I learnt to cook when we were young I have a quick way of making scones and the cooking teacher told me off in the class when we were meant to be making scones by rubbing the butter into the flour I just went along and did them my way ! The teacher screamed at me ! Andrea ! What are you doing ? To which I replied making scones Miss she then screamed that’s not how you are meant to do it I said well this is how I make them at home she got very annoyed when they were cooked they turned out as they always do nice and fluffy and light my father came to teachers evening with me to speak to the teacher and she told him that I don’t follow instructions well and that I should learn to do as told (my dad knew about the scones ) so he said well You will have to excuse her as that’s the way we make them in our house and as my wife is ill both children are very good at taking instructions from my wife when cooking the evening meal since they were little she then apologised to me as she didn’t know our situation and was a little kinder to me after that
