How to make a frunk button for your Tesla

I made a button ("frutton") to open the frunk of my Tesla Model 3. Below are the things I used to make the button.

When I got my Model 3 four years ago, anyone could open your frunk by adding even just a 9 volt battery to the terminals under the bumper cover. A software update fixed that security problem.

Have you considered an autofrunk kit (auto open and auto close) from Hanshaw? I have it installed in my MY (and my M3 previously), and it is the best after-market to my car, hands down. No finger or hand prints. Works using a key fob, the Tesla app and the screen.

The autofrunk kits would definitely be the more premium solution. My frunk button is just a basic diy option that pretty much anyone can do with

I did not install during the video but I am going to add one to the positive lead close to the battery terminal. Thanks for the reminder!

Does that work for the model X because Tesla broke The latch my frunk and they’re now trying to accuse me and charge me this outrageous fee to fix it and I am not going to spend $1233 for a new part from tesla and I know they’re doing this on purpose to get more money out of people

Interesting mod but honestly, it's way too much work. I'll keep using my phone, even if my hands are full and I have to put my packages down. But on my 2018 Model 3 there isn't any foam inside that area. Here's a suggestion for properly closing the Frunk, you just gently hold the hood down and an electronic latch will engage. You don't have to give it a push to click it into the latch because it doesn't have that type of attachment.

Interesting, I just tried that on my 2021 M3LR, it did not work, no electric motor latched when just holding it down, nothing, tried several times.

@@BSSMSLJ Then you are not holding it down far enough or long enough. It's an electric latch, it's not mechanical and doesn't click in like on ICE vehicles. Tesla has not changed how it works on the Model 3. Remember you have to slowly push it down and hold.

@@Resist4 if I had to push any harder it would be more pressure than it takes to actually close it normally, I did hold it down for about four seconds, several times, no go. Perhaps this is something that varies year to year or is different model to model, or even from plant to plant (giga factory). In any case this is not helpful if it in fact takes more pressure than closing it normally.

@@BSSMSLJ Are you getting the hood flush when holding it down. But it's not really that complicated, you just push the hood down and hold, there is no need to give is a shove like with most vehicles. Tesla hasn't changed the mechanism, it's always been an electric lock on the Model 3. The latch is mechanical but the lock is electric doesn't need a shove to lock it in place. How do you normally close your hood?
